Nice heli, you probably don’t want to convert to elec, but that would free up some space.

Looks like you can relocate the fueltank to the rear. With a cockpit up front and some noseweight, cg shouldnt be an issue.

drive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft

Before I converted mine to electric, I mounted a flat 14 oz tank just to the rear of the right side door

Yes, as the carb is pumped so it does not matter where the tank goes. Be aware you have airstar frames, and usually when installed in a fuse, causes vibration resonation. Really be sure the top supports are strong.

What's wrong with the frames? I bought it, and the stock frames dont allow enough room for the cockpit.

The aluminum is VERY thin and VERY soft.

You can remove the plastic radio tray up there, and just use the servo tray for the servos, and mount the tank on the side, or up front on the floor, and still use the cockpit. Also, if you look at the build instructions for the 300C in petrol, you can use three servo holders bolted to the side frames up front to do 3-120, and the servos do not extend beyond the front of the side frames.
Airstar frames are not annealed, so they are just soft aluminum stamped out as frames. There is no strength to them.

what you could do with these frames though... is use them to cut out the frames from 3mm Carbon Fiber. This is stiff enough and still lets you use the servos without the front frame...
