Guys.. I built this HPI Pistol starter to start my 11.5cc engine.. You see, I replaced the wires inside with 14swg wire (Was 16swg) and fitted a very expensive Torque Master Expert 550 motor (Ball Raced). If I use a 14.8v 3-cell Lipo battery (Inside is a 11.1v 3-cell Lipo).. Will it have the guts to start a 34cc engine instead of using a cordless drill (Just wondering), as I had it sitting around.....

You would probably be the best judge of that. My guess would be no, that motor is likely only designed to be run on 2 or 3s anyways and would soon burn up. What are these engines in?

Team Synergy, Team FBL Rotors-------if its not broke...it will be!

Well the 11.5cc (Thunder Tiger .70) is in a Savage truck, and the King Motor (34cc with a CNC ported piston) is in my 1/5th Monster Truck.. Oh, the 550 Motor can run up to 22v (It's intended for a crawler truck)..

Specifications:
Armature: 21 turn three slot
RPM: 27,250 RPM @12v @ 12 degrees timing
Weight: 206 grams
Diameter: 36mm OD x 60mm length (not including shaft)
Shaft: 1/8" diameter D shaft
Mounting Pattern: 1" (25.4mm) M3 screws
Input Voltage: 6-9 cell nimh, 2-3s Lithium
Rotor: 23mm OD x 29mm length

Holy cow !! Where have you been ?? On holiday????
I’ve missed you very much!

Regarding your question, my “guess” would be no but since you’ve already built the starter, try it and report back .....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

nope... and here is support for my answer... Align makes a "super starter" and its a geared down High torque brushed motor that runs on a 3S.... the motor is commonly found in those kids electric ride on toys. I have one that the electronic control board went bad on it. So I wired a high amp push button switch to it to connect a high C 3S lipo directly to the motor... even with this, it struggles to turn over my high compression modded 22cc engines... its "ok" on well broken in "small" zenoahs though... but it wont crank a 30cc RC engine very well at all. this is where a torqmaster 180 comes in or better yet a Dynatron... which is the gold standard for starting big gassers.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Lipo 4s...good for Gasser.
Lipo 3s... Not enough for Gasser.

Motor without gearbox, must be torque master 180 or Sullivan 24 volts.

All the power is going directly to reheat and burn your little motor.

Saludos cordiales,

I did the same with an align starter, then assembled a 6 Cell lithium ion pack. My TRM 310 engine now cranks over like it does with my Dynatron starter on a 6 Cell LiPo.

I would try the pistol starter with a 6 Cell pack, if the mechanics are up to it, the higher voltage decreases the amps required and give umph so engines start quicker.
