A properly Set up FBL unit will not make it want to tip.
Just because it's on the ground doesn't make a difference.
I can leave any of mine sit at full throttle on the ground.

spending time, paying attention

Our friend refuse to hover again and I agree...

Your problem is RF interference.

Check cables, no loops, look for straight paths...

Electronic far away of high voltage ignition...

Gasser is totally different from glow heli...

Onehoof you are overthinking this. As other have said the heli should run up on the ground without problems, just keep your hand off of the cyclic stick. I am assuming you are running Mikado since you mentioned it. You either have a vibration problem, bad sensor/setup or a RF problem thats it. Mine and others mentioned will sit on the ground at full HS just keep you hand off the right stick.

When prepping for take off with either elect. or nitro, I set the throttle stick at mid stick and when the HS is up, move to FM2 and pop the throttle. The heli will rise to about 3', then begin flying the heli but not before.

Gasers may be different.

The way the cyclics are or are not handled iS NOT causing the propensity to tip. Unless you input a hard over stick input and hold it, playing with the sticks when the model is on the ground does not make it want to tip.

Stuff about not touching the cyclics until the model is airborne is an ancient wive's tale.

BUT, it works for us! When my heli is sitting on the ground I have no reason to touch the right stick because the disk is flat. Wives tail or not, it works, and works well. I don't even think about it, or have a strong desire to move it, see above.

Also about the propensity to tip, what I was describing was the fact the heli has a propensity to tip, tells us there is something wrong with vibration or the others I described. The disk in a correctly setup machine will be flat

That kind of behavior it is not cause by vbar setup or human...
It is cause by radio interference...

Gasser ignition is something to care about, seriously...
At low rpm, you can't see the problem but when starting to hover, at higher rpm, things get worse... So, watch it!

I had test flown it twice previously and it flew okay until the plastic tail rotor control rod broke and I had to do a hovering auto.

(I lost the bind to the transmitter and despite following Mikado’s binding instructions, I could not get it to bind. Finally having to plug in the JR Receiver into a satellite port, using the RX as a satellite. But I finally got it to bind.)
must be the FBL setup [due to rebinding] if worked before the incident
[or you're being uncomfortable with the stick after the mishap]

Dumb question (maybe there are no dumb ones at this point?‽!)

You for certain did bind it back to the same model, right?

if it ain't broke, break it.

Yes. It was bound with the same model programed in the radio.

Start a new setup and follow the wizard to the end, following the instructions to the tee, without skipping steps. You have something setup wrong or a HUGE vibration problem.

Do you guys know anyone up here in the Brewster, Washington area who could give me a hand in properly setting this FBL Heli up.

I am about 2 1/2 hours away from Spokane, 1 hour away from Wenatchee and about an hour south of Canada.

^Other companies could take a page from this guy’s book. I’ve had gripes with Mikado over the years. But, Ron is not one.

You’d be wise to take him up on his offer. Vcontrol and vbar can be frustrating at times. Ron is the flippin’ vbar-whisperer.

if it ain't broke, break it.

Thank you Ron. I really appreciate that.

But I am currently working in Washington State, and work until 5 p.m. Pacific Time (8 p.m. Eastern time).

I might be able to touch base with you over the weekend.

Ron from Mikado called me and really helped me out.

Hooking the JR receiver in as a satellite is messing up the function of the FBL control unit.

I discovered the reason I couldn’t get it to bind while hooked to my laptop computer was the USB port was not working.

So, I removed the JR Receiver and plugged the 2nd satellite into the FBL Unit.

At first I had trouble with binding until I saw it wasn’t linking up with my computer and I switched USB ports.

I am hoping to talk with Ron to ensure I did everything right on setting it up.

The swashplate barely moves and moves slowly when I tilt the helicopter. I guess this is normal if it’s not flying?

I don’t think my pitch curves are right. Just eyeballing it, At mid stick, it looks like flat pitch, and full collective looks like around 12 degrees.

Isn’t mid stick supposed to be about six degrees?

Unfortunately, I don’t have a pitch gauge here with me in Washington State.
