This is about the original IKon FBL unit not the second version.

I am helping a friend. We cannot get the unit to bind to a Spektrum DSMX remote receiver. The receiver is good as we can bind using another receiver. The unit will show solid bind on the IKon but will not communicate.

Is it possible that the original version will only talk to DSM2 receivers. We are using the latest IKon software.

Correct. No dsmx compability...
So, dsm2 is ok for your FBL... You don't need dsmX.

If you are referring to the iKON (original), that incorrect.
The old iKON / Brain fully supported DSMX.
Just make sure you have DSMX selected in page 3 of the setup application.
Note that there are 2 DSM2 options, but only 1 DSMX option.

Now, your Spektrum transmitter may not support DSMX (like the old gen1 DX7), but that is a different story.

Also, you can force all MSH gyros (iKON / Brain / iKON 2 / Brain 2) into bind mode the "old fashion way": Using the Spektrum bind plug plugged into the "4, 5, 6" port when it is powered up

In my experience, binding problems seem to mostly be related the distance between the receiver and the transmitter.
If I am too close (less than 1m (3' )), there are problems
If I am 2m to 3m (6' to 10' ) or more, there are no problems.

The gyro has nothing to do with the actual Spektrum binding process.
The gyro only tells satellites to get into Bind mode at the next power on - and then they do that.

Once the satellites are in Bind mode (satellite light flashes rapidly), it is the transmitter that, if it is switched on while holding the binding button, communicates with the satellites and performs Binding.

Your satellites goes in to Bind mode? Led flash?
So, dsm2 is ok for your FBL... You don't need dsmX.
Maybe. Maybe not.

The DSM2 remote receiver did not solve the problem. The Ikon is not saving the information input from the software. We bound the Ikon using another receiver yesterday. The Ikon is just not working correctly. I think that there is some sort of a defect in the IKon beyond just the receiver.

I will try the bind plug suggestion. Tom did order a new IKon2 from AMain on Friday. One way or another, this scale build will go forward. I am aware of the receiver selection page. I have tried many combinations and set the radio up accordingly.

Thank you for your help.

I finally found a user manual for the Original Ikon. That manual specifies using a bind plug in the "Bind Connector" on the iKON not the software.

This iKON does not seem to be saving any of the settings input into the software. I think the iKON is partially dead.

It is not easy to bind those spektrum stuff... To many things to care about.

I'm very happy with my Dsm2 satellite receivers so thinking on dsmX is very distant...
I did bind that little monster just one time and no more... Like futaba...

I hate the blinking led on satellites... Turn off and turn on again...move away TX... Nobody with spektrum near...

My advice... Don't force your spektrum to bind... Go to the easy part...

Heli_Splatter: Please read my original post carefully.
Just make sure you have DSMX selected in page 3 of the setup application.
In other words: Are you sure you picked DSMX or DSM2 before you tried to bind the receivers?
The gyro has nothing to do with the actual Spektrum binding process.
The gyro only tells satellites to get into Bind mode at the next power on - and then they do that.
In other words: The iKON does not store any "bind" information.
If I am 2m to 3m (6' to 10' ) or more, there are no problems.
In other words: Don't be too close.
you can force all MSH gyros (iKON / Brain / iKON 2 / Brain 2) into bind mode the "old fashion way": Using the Spektrum bind plug plugged into the "4, 5, 6" port when it is powered up
In other words: You don't need to use the iKON setup program to bind the receivers.

If you have read this far:
#1 What transmitter are you using?
#2 Have you tried to bind these sat receivers using a "traditional" Spektrum receiver that has sat ports?
FYI: If you can bind them using a traditional Spektrum receiver as sats, then you can transfer them to the iKON without having to re-bind them.

The iKON unit is not talking to anything. We have a replacement coming.

Thank you for the suggestions. Yes I did follow your directions. I have about 15 years of Spektrum experience too! I just did not have a owners manual for the iKON. I do not like doing business that way.

Everything you need is at http://www.msh-electronics.com/
The Owner's Manual is built into the Windows setup application.
Did you visit that site and download the latest iKON code and setup software?
It's free.
BTW: Horizon Hobby launched the Spektrum brand in 2005.
It just seems like it has been 15 years

Yes, yes and yes. The unit is dead. There is nothing to do except wait for the replacement to arrive. Thankyou for your help. I am sure iKON is great, just not this unit.

Good info. I am swapping back to Spektrum. Have a Goblin with this FBL and a new IX12. When I get off nights, will get her in the air.

My message was not a beat down on the iKON. In fact the tech reps and everyone could not have been nicer. As everyone knows, electronic devices are either DOA or work great for a long time. We just got unlucky this time. I would not have a problem recommending iKON what so ever.
