I’ll add my Brooklyn 2Pence. Let There be Peace before we end up in pieces. None of us gets paid to participate and the rewards are seeing friends and amazing ships and flights and having a tremendous time. I brought my $3 dollar ship back from last year and flew it in Sport n IRCHA 518 as well as my Team Scale partners UH1B. We had a blast despite weather n mechanical issues that we overcame. IMO there aren’t many events for us to attend so I’d think it better that we came together and continue to build this aspect of Copter modeling tather than shooting into the crowd. Yes some of us spend more time building and less time flying but so what. Stay in the game. BTW; I’m unsure of how any person can come to the scale tent as a guest/potential entrant/enthusiast and expect any pilot to simply strike up a conversation while they’re prepping without engaging them first. I personally spoke to many people that asked me questions and or were checking out my ship. I even let some children push n pull on my swashplate and fiddle with my blades n pilot n copilot. Bottom line is a closed mouth doesn’t get fed. Let’s build together. Peace n Love n Blessings n smooth flights n builds yadda yadda yadda.RIP Roman Pirozek Jr.

Thanks to those that contacted me.. I felt it would be worth a friend's request on FB to Taylor but to this point.. no dice..no responce. I was hoping to get to know him better as I have never met the man or know anything about him.. I suspect it's the same for him. Opening the door to an understanding seems like a good idea to me. Taylor...door is opened..

NATs 2019
As many of you know I was the Event Director for the last 2 (2017 & 2018) Scale Helicopter NATs along with being a judge for many years before that. And as many of you already know, I will not be returning as the Event Director for next years Scale NATs because I want to start competing again.

So this is an opportunity for the ones that have stated their concerns or issues to step up and run next years Scale NATs as they see fit. I will support in any way possible whoever takes advantage of this opportunity.

Thanks!

Hi Grim, I won't take sides, but I will say that your attempt to mend the fence with Taylor is cool. He's a friend of mine and is a very nice guy. Hopefully you two can strike up a friendship along the way and laugh about this some time down the road.

Sooo.. whats a guy to do...

Write a proposal to remove or change the verbiage regarding "original Owner"
or
Wait until somebody wrights a proposal to remove or change the verbiage
or
pull my helicopters because I am not the original owner of ANY of my contest machines.. (the mechanics in my EC-145 are second hand, new but second hand, same with the fuse.)

A proposal can take quite some time to get passed....
I can pull my machines from contesting in a breath...

Truth is I can not afford to BUY a new machine right now.. i have OTHER priorities.. (should this keep me from contesting?).. how about others in this spot..

or...

We can keep on doing what we are doing.

I have to wonder.. how in the WORLD did a guy 2000 miles away with NO ties to the event become so passionate about this issue..(I like his Moxey) I would hope its because he "Wants to come Play".. I HOPE SO.. we need more contesters..

but if its not....and somehow he is driven from somebody poking him with a stick... then.. I am lost.. if i find out this is the case.... and they want me gone or somehow called out..... so be it.. we can do that too...

the wording def needs to be changed. I believe that until an official change is made, the event director can make that change for that event til it becomes official. Dont quote me on that but i thi k that is so. Can anyone confirm whether this is accurate or not?drive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft

"The Contest Director acts as a representative for AMA in the administration of
sanctioned events. There is a high level of responsibility as a result of this status. The
concerns of properly
applying the rules, maintaining fairness, and providing high levels
of safety in connection with the event are basic. In acting as a CD of an AMA sanctioned
event, the Contest Director is protected by insurance. "

Nothing in the rules for CD's about changing the rules to fit the contestants.
In all my years doing scale, i only know of one year where this rule was thrown in the faces of the judges and other entrants. I know that Mark S and Darrell can verify this. Other than that, everyone has played fair. The rules were written not to exclude anyone, including the funky fuselages, to enter. It was deemed that the static scores would take care of those entering this type of fuse, but they would get the feel for the contest and hopefully move on to something else. What the rule wants to exclude is the person paying for a heli all done in scale design, and then entered. This is the reason for the rule as its written. This is the way it has always been interpreted until recently for some reason. If you want to purchase a wreck, then fix it and paint it up the way you want it, more power to you. Too much is being made about this original owner wording. Take it in the spirit in which i wrote this set of rules for 518, and there should be no issues, if everyone is on the same page.
