I stopped in the tent and saw some amazing models. Unfortunately everyone was so busy talking with each other they did not attempt to say hello or show me their models, very disappointing.

I am sorry you had that experience. I see many people come by and look and some say hi and some dont. I do k ow that if someone interupted us to ask about a model we would jump right up and answer any questions you had, i know this cuz ive seen everyone do it.pleade dont let thst experience give u a bad impression about us scalers because we love to talk especially about our models. I guarantee u the next time if u say hello and that you have a few questions, you may find yourself in a tractor beam of conversation from which you find impossible to escape

2018 IRCHA is over and it was a blast! Got a little hot Friday and Saturday, but otherwise the weather was good to us. Friday was bit of rough day for me, nearly lost 3 models but the fortunately the Heli Gods were looking down on me and only suffered very very minor damage.

First episode was when I completely lost the tail drive on Airwolf. I was lucky and managed to get the gear down and land the big 'ole Lady. All she suffered was a tweaked bearing mount on the front gear pivot axle for the retracts, so the front retract would bind and not retract. An easy fix. Culprit was failed connection between the rear claw joint connector and the torque tube. Was fixed later that evening and Wolf flew again on Saturday. It is amazing at how fast a 50 plus pound bird can start spinning when you loose the tail!

Second episode was during my first flight in the IRCHA scale contest. I had a major brain fart and got the Monster BO-105 across the foul line WAY too close to the tent and spectator area. I was low, in a steep bank and hit TH and forced it into the ground as square and flat as I could. Only "damage" was the landing gear shifted in it's calm shell clamp system. Loosened the clamps, repositioned the gear and all was perfect. Not even any paint damage! Cant tell it hit the ground.

Third episode was late in the afternoon and I was flying the Hirobo Chinook. She had been flying nicely all day and the day before. I was in a high hover and big gust of wind came, no biggie as I corrected, but my correction plus the gyro correction plus the added collective I think was all it took to over load the belt and it skipped. Blades starting hitting and all I could do was hit throttle hold and settle it to the ground as softly as I could. It luckily landed on the gear in pile of cut grass clippings to soften the landing. Only damage is the blades!

It was great seeing everyone again and catching up!!

Thanks to Darrel for helping organize everything and a special thanks to Vario for the tent and lunch every day and for the IRCHA scale contest prizes!!

Steve

Seems like all of us were saving models from the scrap heap. Electrical, mechanical etc etc but they’re all safely back in the hangar.

I'm not sure when you stopped by but I can assure you that any of the pilots would have been more than happy to assist anyone who had any questions about the models displayed or maybe help with a project you may be working on... We were doing it all week. As stated by copter doctor, some people will come in and just look, others will ask a simple question and end up hanging out for hours

Hey guys. Sent an email to “sales@superscalehelis.com” last night but I doubt if there will be a response since the website is pretty much. Does anyone know how to contact George or know the status of his fuselages availability? Thanks

I wasn't bashful, I struck up a conversation and had a great time talking to the guys at the scale tent.

Hey, I like to put my 2 cents in. I had a wonderful time in the scale tent. I met a lot of new people and saw some good friends. I didn't compete do to a brand new radio problem. I want to thank all of you on taking the time out to talk on how you made this and that.
Darrell thank you, even though I was 3 to 4 months late on the magnet trick (double). I would also like to thank Grim, for driving the gulf cart for a Cheese curd run to the Futaba tent. Didn't bring any cheese back but, did get a new radio. Thanks Grim!!! I met a lot of people that I can't remember name but faces I will remember. Larry Chapman a very good friend of mine is great person. Larry next time we have breakfast we have it at Ihop every time okay buddy!!

Thank you guys for letting me into the scale family

Dan

Evan,

As a MINIMUM.. you need a color view and 3 view on your declaration page. Sport scale IS a place for both quick built machines as well as full 518 builds.. just remember the scoring is weighted towards flying and in this class thats a GOOD THING...

Now I fully understand why the attendance for beginning level competitors is so low.

I for one would love to start in the sport scale division. But the challenge of getting off work in the middle of the week is real for most. Especially when considering this is suppose be an entry-intro level to the Competition scale helicopter circuit.
May be more sport scale competitions in areas would help lite a spark. If the static round was Saturday and a one and done flight round Sunday morning. @ Events like Panama City, Joel's event, Mike's event, Dalton I’m sure I have missed some other possible scale events. I know I for one would be definitely down for at least 3 competitions.
