Hi,

Looking at a used 550L Dominator. It has clearly been built up using the base kit rather than the combo because the servos and ESC are different.

It contains
Servos - BL700 and BL750
ESC - BL100A

The combo would have included

Servos - BL815 and BL855
ESC - Castle Talon 90

Is this anything I should be worried about, any cause for concern?

Cheers,

Nigel

A buddy of mine that I fly with regularly set up his with the Talon, and had amp related cutoffs with it. He took it out of the heli and changed to an Ice 120 and I did not get a chance to go over his setup, but I am running two of them in planks in airplane mode, and they work fine.

I really do think you should check the Talon out, set the amp cutoff limit to insensitive and do a complete setup in the CC software and give it a try. I think the BEC is enough for the servos you have.

I have been running those servos on my T700 DFC for a couple years now, and not had a glitch on any of them.

Just to clarify, the one I am looking out does not have the Talon - it has the HobbyWing.

And when you say you have been running those servos, do you mean the BA700 and BA750 - because that is what is in the heli being offered.

Also just noticed, in the video that he shows the heli being flown it is the Align combo (BA815, BA855 and Creation) but he appears to have swapped them out for the sale (without declaring that) and saying that I will have to set up the HobbyWing ESC because he doesn't know how to do it.

So I can't see it working before purchase.

Does this sound believable.

The seller says that he bought the TREX 550L Dominator as a combo, but swapped out the BA815 and BA855 servos with BA700H and BA750H from his TREX 700 because they are ‘better’.

He also says that he swapped the Castle ESC with the Align BL100A as an upgrade.

Does that sound believable?

Cheers,

Nigel

Sorry, I did sort of misunderstand you. I am running the Align amp, I assume it is the 100, on my 600ESP and it has worked fine as a basic speed control. I am running the Align 700 series servos on my 700 DFC, again with no issues.

On the Align ESC, supposedly it does have a governor, but I haven't ever run mine trying to use it. I have run it using straight throttle curves when I was flying my Spektrum TX, and now run it using a Vbar control transmitter with set values of ESC output (like a flat line throttle curve).

That swapout story does sound kinda shakey to me.

I have the combo but the Castle 90 Talon was an absolute disaster it almost cost me a new heli, I now have the RED Align 100 amp esc with the fan which works well.

In short, yes you should be okay. Specification wise, those BL700Hs and BL750Hs are designed for 550s. The "H" denotes that the servo has the capability to run high voltage up to 8.4v. One thing of note is the this servo has been discontinued, so finding one if you have an issue could be an expensive problem because your cyclic servos have to match...so if one goes, you have to replace them all. That's probably why the seller swapped them out.

The RCE-BL100A is actually better to handle the load of a 550. Simply stated, it's a 100A vs the Talon which only a 90A. So again, spec wise, you are covered...quality wise, I'm not so sure. Align ESCs of the past were kind of hit or miss when it came to quality. Although, they have gotten much better over the years. I still run my same Align ESCs for years now with no issues, but some people have problems constantly. All I can say is have a spare sitting around just in case. You Tube has setup videos for your ESC.

Run your setup. As long as none the items he swapped are not faulty to begin with, your 550 should fly just fine for any style you can throw at it and there is no cause for concern.

Good luck

Mellisa
