so I just replaced the ring in an OS 70SZ, the new ring has a different color, well the stock ring is dark like all other rings I have seen, like Cast Iron materiel, but the new ring is a bit shiny with a bronze color, so I am wondering if at some time OS upgraded the ring with better materiel ??

any one know ??

if you click on my links you can see there are many OS rings the same color, my Hyper 50's and plane engine's rings were dark,,

I didn't think to take a photo before I installed the ring

I don't have a definitive answer to your question but I don't recall any discussion of a new ring for the 70.

There most definitely was a new piston for the 70 but not a ring (that I know of).

I believe the gold colored rings you are looking at are not OEM rings. Many of the "shinier" rings are labeled "reproductions". That is not to say they aren't as good or even superior to OS OEM rings. The apperent difference in color could be the results the material they are made from or a surface treatment. Or it might be they are just photographed differently...

I got my ring from AMain Hobbies, I guess they could have got it from any one,, but the ring I received was the bronze color, and it came in a "genuine" OS package, hopefully it's not junk !!

thanks for the reply

It does sound like you have an OEM ring and I wouldn’t expect it to be one of the gold/shiny rings. Again, I don’t think OS changed their rings so I can’t explain the difference. You’ll have let us know how it holds up.
