My next build is for a 1/7th scale Vario Huey.

The basic tube bend is done and the steel couplers fabricated. The scale detail I'll apply to this will be the front steps for Pilot and 2nd Pilot, the ground handling wheel mounts and the Skid Tube anti-wear strips (Skid Shoe).

More to follow.

I have started 3D printing now for a higher quality finish on 'non structural' parts..

These are the Skid Wear pads (Skid Shoes) for the Skid tube front and underside.

The Set is almost complete, ready for priming. The required detail is now 3D printed and attached. The fixing screws were a bit fiddly!!

Those look awesome!
I’m am sure the recipient will be very happy.
I like that you drilled two mounting holes on the cross strut as opposed to a single hole in the center.
Are you building a Huey to go along with the landing gear?

Roy,

The Customers model uses 2 holes so this is the route I took. The difference from this and the OEM set is I used thick walled 12mm (3.6mm wall) tube. This allowed me to create blind mounting holes, by drilling and tapping just the tops of the tubes.. From underneath the machine there are no fixings showing. This should make the skid set less likely to break (they should deform) in the event of a heavy landing unlike through hole mounting with a machine screw and nut probably would.. I try to build all my skids this way when the fixing method will allow it.

You could then embellish the machine with scale 3D printed mounts to look like the full size if the fuse allows this.

I just build Scale Skids.. :-)

Thanks for you comments....

DG.
