Unresponsive tail [ SOLVED ]
I have an FBL 250 clone that I built a few years ago. It was my first real heli, I had no clue how to properly set up and program a gyro, I crashed it on my second attempt to hover, and was relegated to the basement. I busted it out a few weeks ago, fixed the broken tail, replaced main and feather shafts, and fully reprogrammed the gyro. I have had many successful flights in the last couple of weeks. It hovers great, and I've been working on forward flight and banked turns. Yesterday, I was flying in a little bit of a breeze, and the tail started acting odd. If some wind picked up, the gyro would hold the head, but it wouldn't respond to radio inputs. I would give full rudder stick, and nearly nothing for a few seconds, before it would slowly turn. I'm using a Tarot ZYX gyro with DS919MG/11854 Corona 919MG Digital tail servo. I'm waiting for the weather to clear to fly it again without wind and see if I can replicate the issue. Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar issues and can point me to a possible gyro misconfiguration or other things to look at.

This is a mistake, replicate the issue on the bench with main and tail blades removed. Put it in the air with a known problem doesn't usually end well.

Once you replicate the issue, let us know.

A couple checks, have the tail servo move slowly and put your fingers on the servo arm, feel for notchy movement. ( messed up servo gears ) also, unhook the linkage and move it by hand, needs to be smooth as silk.

Update: Taking "Flying for Jesus" advice, I bench tested the bird last night. Everything seemed to operate as it's supposed to. I checked the linkage and connections, and it was smooth, at least I thought so. So I removed the bell crank and disconnected the servo horn. Wiped everything clean, reattached the bell crank. I made sure to use thread locker and didn't tighten it super tight. Zeroed the servo and bench tested again. All seemed normal, so I flew the heli this morning, and everything worked as it was supposed to. So, either the tail linkage wasn't buttery smooth enough, or the fact that there is less wind had an affect.

So now you'll have to wait and try it on a windy day to see if it's really fixed or not .....Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

This may be a little late, but I can confirm that after flying on a windy day, the tail was fixed.
