Welcome to the newer RR RC (Your RC World Organized).

The new RR homepage is now the place for everything RC. Each RR site (RC interest) can be viewed standalone. RR software engineering rewrites the book on how forum discussions are supposed to work. This is just the beginning and is a work in progress.

The helicopter (site) forums remain the same minus off topics and multi-rotors. Bookmark the heli site: https://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/home/
Clicking the top centered page information banner provides (go up) navigation. This is a link that sends up the page hierarchical tree ending at the RR home page.

I will be producing RR how-to-use videos (YouTube hosted) in the next few months. I need 100 or more RR channel subscribers to claim a custom RR YouTube URL.

Please visit RR's new YouTube channel and click the subscribe link.

I just uploaded new code that keeps track of time frames for each site you View-New Mark-Read. To see this in action and from the homepage, first visit each site and mark-read and notice the yellow lights turning off on the homepage. With all sites read, notice the remaining yellow for home page forums. Finally click the homepage NewR link and only see new Home Forum topics.
Please post reply your comments and suggestions.

well that was weird... I personally dont care for the "other" RC model types which is why I liked RR as it was heli centric... but guess alot of folks do dabble in other RC craft that also include helis.

do what you gotta do to remain competitive. not sure that spreading the site that far and wide is worth all the work its going to take to keep it clean.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Yes I just fixed some weird behavior. I need to do separate user view new time frames for each site below the home page.

Mark,
If you are wanting a general Site, you might want to add All of the disciplines of rc, like Sail planes, boats ect.... ...

I hope this helps, I have loved coming here for over 13 years and would like to see it evolve.

good Luck ...

Looking good Mark, am finding my way around just fine.....just had to look a
little harder at first.

And as said above, although I have always liked this as a heli-only site, you do what you need to stay competitive and hope that ad space starts growing again back to at least close to its former self!

If you want to turn RR into the 'Walmart' of RC hobby, Im not sure this is the way to go. Instead of going to a new web page for each point in navigation, why not simply expand a dropdown menu from each primary topic on the homepage? Keeps the new page request from hitting the server for every navigation point prior to the actual topic thread...

I hope not. I don't like visiting there.

Prior to last week there was just one site (helis) and it's long list of forums. Each of the heli site's forums displayed a long list of topics. The heli site presented separate yellow view new links for regular topics and classified topics.

Now moving forward I am re-engineering RR to display more than just one site. I am cloning what we had to cover ALL of RC. Each site will present the user with their own separate view new time frames.

Presenting everything on one home page (classic-design) with drop downs as you suggest breaks the new design criteria. Now all of your RC interests and viewing can be kept separate from each other. As is with all or your existing website (bookmarked) RC sites of interest.

Bookmark this site, and for the most part, all is the same prior to last week.

Or if I am confused please rephrase your design suggestion.

sure... suggestion is this:
instead of jumping to another webpage when clicking on aircraft, when I hover over "aircraft" with my mouse pointer, a sublist displays under aircraft with Helicopter, Multi-Rotor, Fixed Wing. ?

It would save you a click... sure it adds more javascript, but it makes the site more interactive... JMHO...

Yes but how do you get to the Aircraft site.

I do plan on implementing "My Sites" and also a new top right icon left of the search icon for jumping to any site.

how? you dont... Aircraft as you have it is a primary subject... clicking on it takes us to another webpage that then has only three types, plus a main topics... why? its confusing, the current layout now has 12 main topics? One for each subtopic. Alot of members post questions in the "first" main topic to get exposure they may never get if posting elsewhere (like posting a question in TSA or Airstar brand topics).

I know the only people posting right now are the most vocal, but I also try to put myself in the shoes of those that may never post a comment about web layout.

I liked the way it was before. A RC Heli Centric web site. as was stated before, If I want to talk planks I go to another site... if I want to talk RC buggies another dedicated and marinating in experienced RC car guys...

Smells to me like you are you trying to compete with RC groups...

There is going to be many more aircraft sub-sites to come.

Helis still has it's own main discussion. The aircraft site's main discussion is what I think is adding to your idea of confusion. The aircraft site's main discussion is a place holder for discussing such things as what new aircraft sub-sites to add to itself.

The layout is maybe 20% complete. I still need to rewrite and implement the site-forum display editor.

Then RR's prognosis does not look promising.

RR is serious business and is trying to offer value to all involved.

its promising... just not sure how you plan on bringing other RC types over. granted the RC car guys outnumber us 50 to 1 (if not more) based on what we see selling at stores... hell I think the RC boats guys even outnumber us if we use the Hobby Town 'visual' sales metrics.

What are your plans for RR other than expanding the subject matter to all RC?

I hope its worth the effort cause topic specific sites do have their strong points...

More is not always better.

That's my bottom line without the hassle of countless user-name user-password logins. One RR gallery of photos, one RR member profile and one RR set of PMs. Very useful especially for RR's very effective classifieds.

Mark one thing I miss is once you click on a classified section, all the other sub sections used to be at the top of the page so you can get to each without having to use the back button.

Yes but now you have a dedicated classified site to serve as compensation. Notice the new breadcrumb "Classified" being displayed within all classified topics...
