Low head speed question
Hey all, I'm new to this 6s and have a question. I have a goblin 700 with a quantum 4530 500 kv motor and a castle ice 160 esc . Can I just plug in a 6s 5000 and fly or will it damage the electronics.
Thanks.

No, it won't damage the equipment. You will typically see half the head speed you see running it at 12s. I've done this years because I love the low head speed stuff. Sometimes I plug a 7s pack in its a lot of fun, easy going flight normally around 7 plus minutes.Minicopter Diabolo 800, Minicopter Triabolo 700, Minicopter Diabolo 700, Minicopter Diabolo 600, Minicopter Diabolo 550, Goblin 770

using a "normal" 12S setup and merely plugging in a single 6s pack works, and works well,.. as lots of people have experienced. However, if you find out you really like low headspeed, a 12S setup with low KV motor and small/light 12S packs is a much better configuration. The higher voltage provides numerous things, such as more available power (6S at 1100 and 12S at 1100 really do feel different due to the ability to use a LOT more pitch), much higher efficiency, and longer flight times. My current 700, for example, flies on 12s, 4350mah batteries, and an 80 amp ESC (60 amp is just fine but machine is tailheavy with the super light esc). on my current 700 setup i run 1200 and 1450 in two flight modes, pulling 16 pitch each way, and flies smooth 3d for 15 minutes.Gary Wright

Low KV motor, high voltage, small pinion, large main gear, overdriven tail rotor. Sometimes custom parts are required.

pitch doesn't stall the blades, angle of attack does. Say you put in a full pitch input of 16 degrees, it's only at 16 angle of attack for a split second, and as the heli accelerates in that direct the angle of attack decreases as it starts moving, so you're down to just a few degrees after full acceleration about that axis.Gary Wright
