Hi,

Returning to the hobby after some years. I have a TT Raptor 50 which I will continue to fly but I'd like to move to electric as the noise of IC is frowned upon at my club.

I'm still very much a beginner and don't have any aspirations to do 3D - flat circuits and gentle aeronautics is more than enough for me.

So I could buy a new TREX but that is a lot of money and more heli that I will ever need.

What would be nice is to buy second hand, and be able to use my existing servos and gyro. No desire to go flybarless.

But I need to be able to get spares without having to resort to searching eBay for used stuff.

I'm concious that there are a lot of manufacturers and brands that are discontinued but not really sure which ones they are.

Can anyone recommend what models I could look at.

Cheers,

Nigel

A FB heli that still has parts support will be hard to find.

I'm thinking Align might be the only one but I don't own any and don't know how long they support older models.

You are going to very hard pressed to find a 550 size heli flybar these days, unless you buy something old. Minicopter, Synergy, SAB Goblin, Align Trex, Compass, have all moved to flybarless, you might want to give it a try. You just might like it.

Minicopter Diabolo 800, Minicopter Triabolo 700, Minicopter Diabolo 700, Minicopter Diabolo 600, Minicopter Diabolo 550, Goblin 770

Yes I am thinking buying used, I have had some lessons on a Raptor E550 and like that. But it is unclear whether it is still supported for spares.

Cheers,

Nigel

Several of the modern FBL systems will work on flybar helis as well like Spirit. You can even have rescue and stabilization if you want. Something to consider as it would then easily move to a FBL heli. They're a breeze to set up these days. Give one a try.

BTW I still fly an old Hirobo Shuttle plus that is 550 sized. Parts are still available as well as an E conversion. I plan though to fly it as is until something major breaks and then hang it up. It was only $220 built RTF new two years ago (LHS) and even came with it's own DX6i.
