If it’s a 12s heli and you want low head speed, just plug a jumper in. If it’s a 6s heli, you need to reprogram for a 6s heli. Hope this helps...

If we originally use Mode 4, the ESC uses Voltage as one of the parameter to calculate HS. Of course it will work if we don’t reprogram, however we won’t achieve full efficiency.

It’s such a quick process.
- I would suggest Mode 1 > Mode 5 > Mode 9
- HS is learned on first flight and holds throughout flight.

Scott,
I’m lost now!! when I got the heli I did mode 1 to reset the esc then mode 4 tested and it flys fine. Now I have been reading the manual and I it says that using mode 6 will give low throttle curve from 20 to 80 and different types of head speed.

You suggest mode 1 then mode 5 them mode 9 what’s mode 9 do?

If I want to stay with mode 4 for example do I have to set mode 1, 4, and then 9 for max efficiency?

Thank you in advance.

Gotta go to work, but if you give me 12-18 hrs I'll try to ease the confusion.

PS: You have a Powerjive 120HV, NOT Helijive, right?

Dr Ben yes a power jive 120hv. This is my first one I have always use the Castle ones. Like I said before I got it set saw a video on YouTube. Reset the esc using mode 1 then did mode 4 and flew the heli it is holding the head speed and changing between normal idles etc. I used MrMel cal for throttle curves speeds.

Thank you!!

Ok,
Here's the deal. Definitely do the Moe 1 reset when you change ANY component of your set up.

When you run mode 4, the governor works well but it sets head speed based on what it sees with a fully charged pack. If peak voltage of one pack varies a bit from another, so will head speed at the same throttle %. Furthermore, if you run mode 4, you cannot unplug the pack for whatever reason and then reconnect it partially charged and have the head speed be the same.

For these reasons I want you to use mode 11 instead of mode 4, programmed in sequential order. Mode 11 is governor store. It keeps the head speed the same regardless of which pack you use AND allows you to unplug and replug and have the same head speed be there. To use mode 11, first look at your packs and find the one that has the LOWEST peak voltage right off charge. On the first flight after programming the esc, that is the pack you will use for the first flight. Spool the head up at 0 degrees of pitch and let the governor capture. Not on the bench. Blades need to be on the model. The esc then learns the voltage/throttle curve relationship and will adjust automatically from pack to pack going forward. It makes NO difference exactly which throttle percentage is used for this initial spool up. The esc is only looking at throttle %/voltage ratios. Remember for Jive (NOT Jive Pro) that the ideal flying throttle percentage is in the 60 to 70% range, though the active freewheeling lets them do well at lower percentages.

The mode 6 you referenced earlier applies to the Helijive. Mode 6 with JiveHV/Powerjive is car mode.

Help some?

Ok I’m going to try that. But when I got this heli I set up the esc using a video I found mode 1 first then mode 4 I did about 4 or 5 flights and the head speed was constant now I just put a flat curve on the radio for normal idle 1 and 2 using Me Mel cal.

Now I did the esc calibration with the batt on store mode they where about 45% or so do I have to redo the calibration with the pack 12s fully charge? Mode 1 then mode 11???

Reread what I wrote. Mode 4 only creates rpm inconsistency from flight to flight if the packs vary in peak voltage. I would use gov store for the reason alone that you can stop mid flight and unplug to adjust something and then be able to replug as normal and continue.

Packs must be fully charged for the first run in mode 11 following reset. Do mode 1>9>11.

Ok so mode 1>9>11 full batt charge spool up o pitch.

So for every mode plug and unplug the black pin hear the tones just like I did it the first time but the difference will be that mode 11 I have to be out and ready to spool up do I leave the jumper in after the calibration? Mode 11? Spool up till the gov catch spool down unplug the black pin then batt off then just plug back the batt and then fly right!!!

For how long I leave it spooling up a couple of seconds?

You can do the initial spool up anytime you want after you put the ESC into mode 11. It does not have to be right then in right there. It's just going to be the next flight after you go through the setup sequence. To be clear, you do not put the ESC into mode 11 and as soon as it counts tp 11 go fly. You put it into mode 11, unplug everything, and then reboot the ESC as normal and then go fly. You can keep the jumper in place when you're not actually pulling it out to enter setup mode. 5 or 10 seconds is plenty once you hear the governor catch. You'll hear the RPM shift just a little when it captures.

Dr Ben,
Ok done is flying but I don’t know my head speed. I did a curves of 60,65 and 70 where can I find what head speed I’m running with those curves? I want 2000hs to 2500hs this is on a Goblin 570 I want to try to stay as low as possible big air stuff not hard 3D for know.

Mr. Mel's will let you input gear ratio and will extrapolate head speed from there fairly closely. Beyond that, you need someone to tach you.
