Dang, broke it!
Was out flying my first generation T-Rex 450 Pro, all original except for being converted from flybar to DFC. Something gave me a nasty bite on my ear, and in attempting to land quickly I sort of backed it tail first into my lawn. As expected, it stripped out the torque tube gears. This is the first time that this heli has been damaged.

Replacement gears have been ordered, so this little heli should be back in the air soon. As for what bit me, I don't really know other than it hurt like heck.

Here in Florida, always look down at the ground before you spool up. Fire ants can do a serious damage to you if you stand on the nest.
In addition to ground hornets, horseflies, mosquitoes, no seems, blind mosquitos, lovebugs, rattle snakes, cotton mouths, alligators, black bears, you wonder if it is safe to fly in Florida. Well, most of those don't bother you if you don't bother them.
I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

While I didn't see it, my guess is that I got munched upon by what we call a "horse" fly. They are big enough that you can just about put a saddle on them and take them for a ride. I am aware of the "nice" critters that you enjoy in Florida. Business used to take me to the space center on a regular basis, so I've seen the warning signs as well as the critters. I discovered that 'gators can run plenty fast when they want to. That was an interesting experience and luckily I retained all of my limbs.

In regard to the heli, there is a major heli supplier only 50 miles away here in Massachusetts. They had the parts in stock and the parts are already in the mail. With any luck I might have them tomorrow, certainly no later than Friday.

I don't know about MA, but in CA, we have wasps
You get bit by a wasp, it is like being stuck with a red-hot nail (I assume - I've never actually been stuck by a red-hot nail. But, I've been bit by wasps).
They are sneaky.
If you are near their nest, you may not know it until the are biting you.

Well, not broken for much longer. Ordered the replacement parts shortly after I dinged the heli yesterday morning. The replacements came in USPS this afternoon, just regular first class postage. That's one great supplier!Gerry Cullan,

Every dang weekend I come home with my legs covered in noseeum bites, and my forearms and wrists with skeeter bites. Grrr. Too damned hot to wear pants and long sleeves though. I use bug spray too. I hate the feel of that stuff.

Noseeums bites itch soooo bad, like terrible flea bites.

I was able to get the repaired heli flying this past Wednesday, replacing the original stock white gears with the black V3 gears. All went well and the kept to themselves. After hearing what some of you put up with for biting critters, I think I'll stop complaining about our New England bugs.Gerry Cullan,
