If you are in one place for a while, you could mail order what you want, and have it delivered. Delivery times in the US are quite quick, depending on where you are.

I used to do frequent business travel from the UK to the US. I used to do 2 or 3 week stints and tried mail order a number of times. I found success was hit and miss, quite often I would place the order only to have it cancelled - the problem is my UK credit card doesn't even match the country let alone the delivery address and for first order some companies won't take the risk. Others are fine with it but it was a bit of a lottery.

In a similar way, buying gas is a faff because the credit card does not have a UK zip code so paying at the pump is not possible.

Cheers,

Nigel

Use PayPal where possible...retailers don’t care about mismatched addresses if PayPal is used

Usually if you call your credit card company, BEFORE you leave the UK, and preferably from your home phone, and inform them that you will be travelling abroad, they will allow the card to go through. I have used my US credit card without issue in the UK, Middle East, etc. I always call them and tell them which countries I will be using my card in, and which dates I will be there. I have used my card to rent cars, dining, etc. I have not ordered anything in the UK to be delivered to an UK address, but as long as the credit card company knows ahead of time, it should go through. If you are staying at a particular hotel, you could give them the exact address items would be shipped to, which will prevent any delay.
