And still many don't want teachers and/or armed plain clothed security persons in the school.
There are plenty of veterans who would volunteer and are trained in firearms.
A well trained armed teacher cannot stop the initial shooting, but may be able to save many, and save the taxpayers by taking out the scumbags.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

It amazes me how long this has been going on and still no change. You would think people would say let’s try something different especially sense it keeps occurring. Scum bag politicians have security but yet we can not give it to our most prize resource.

Got to have my cup of heli in the morning.

Besides not allowing young people to have unfettered access to firearms, I say young people should not have unfettered access to social media. In other words, confiscate their cell phones.

I do not love the idea about arming teachers
However, I am not against the idea of having well trained, armed individual in schools. Something has to be done now to try to prevent/minimize school shootings.
Importantly, the main problem is mental health. Our kids are going bananas! We, as a society need to address this issue. It is already out of hand. One school shooting is one too many.

I see it as obvious. How has the equation changed in the last 20 years? The onslaught of social media is driving the unraveling of society. The progressive mindset is gaining strength which is contributing to dysfunctional parenting. Young minds don't know if they are coming or going.

So what is the common denominator? Seems as these shooters are all bullied outcast members of their class. Who bullied them? Yep your little inocent looking darlings. It builds up over years until they graduate or are close to graduating.

Your kids are picking on them because they look funny, talk funny, dont have fancy clothes their parents cannot afford, or any number of other stupid reasons. Maybe they are slow or fat, so you pick on them. You know the potential result, yet you let your kids do it. Then you cry crocodile tears as you bury your young way too soon.

As adults, you continue picking on people. It is really surprising that it does not happen daily. Maybe just one of you could teach your child not to bully someone else.

.that would be great.

Be careful of statistics like this. While possibly technically correct, stats like this are usually floated out to advance an agenda and rarely paints a true picture.

Military deaths are not what they seem. It's been a few years since I looked at it, but deaths of military personnel used to be substantially below those of the same age group of civilians. That included gulf war combat. I have no reason to believe that has changed. https://top5ofanything.com/list/173...States-Military

I don't say this to trivialize the conversation or understate the value of military service. I only mention this to caution against taking a statistic as proof of anything.

Remember, "There are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics".

Let's not overlook the weapons used. A revolver and a shotgun. All the hoopla about banning AR's (which account for less than 0.1% of shootings) while ignoring the rest. Even going so far as saying "your revolvers, shotguns and bolt action guns will ALWAYS be safe". Yeah right. They want them all, let's not let them get their foot in the door with this BS. This shooting (same as the rest) falls to mental illness. This kid (and the last one in Florida) being bullied should be looked at hard. There needs to be repercussions for these bullies.

How the heck are these kids getting into School property with guns is beyond me. There should be one way in and one way out and have an armed guard at the door. I mean how long has this been going on its like no one is looking at making these Schools safer what the hey? Airports have metal detectors for goodness sake why not Schools. What is going on?

Got to have my cup of heli in the morning.

The news paper reported he had intended to take his own life but reported he said "he didn't have the courage to take his own life". My mind boggles at the arrogance. You have the nerve to shoot 10 other people but value your own life enough to want to live? What a miserable, self-centered, arrogant fukc.

Anyway. No matter. He is officially no longer in control of his life. The "misery" of high school is going to be replaced by something entirely different. He may not have had the courage to take his own life but the Texas judicial system and the parents of the victims will have more than enough to help him.

'Social Media...'

Yeap, been saying it for a while. I don't have a Facebook page for a reason. Never will. And I don't tweet either. Every time I read about a young person committing suicide because they were bullied on 'social media', I talk to my oldest daughter about it.

Bullying...WHO HASN'T BEEN BULLIED? So what, most of us got over it, got thru it, or beat the crap out of the 'bullies', so on and so forth. We didn't take a gun to school and start killing people. We DEALT with the situation and lived thru it. Because we KNEW RIGHT FROM WRONG. And as much as you non-believers love to chastise us believers, we believed in a higher power and we knew that this was not the right thing to do. There are consequences for our actions, now and after we are gone. Take that away, and really, what is stopping any one? How about respect for the law? IDK about you, but I was raised to respect the law, just as I raise my children to be.

It is truly sad....our most 'prized possessions' are really in trouble.

But I will say this: How about we start holding the PARENTS responsible for NOT KEEPING THEIR FIREARMS locked up? How many of these incidents would NOT have happened, of happened differently, IF they hadn't had access to their parents guns.

This is NOT a 2nd Amendment item....this is a PARENTING item.

As was pointed out to me this morning. This shootings are all happening at schools. We should just close all the schools.

Bullying is not right, teach your children not to bully others, and stop doing it yourself.

I agree. Schools serve no social need. close them all and use the land for something useful, like low cost housing.

2low, great idea. funnel over a 1000 kids who arrive at school at different times through a single door and search them all. so simple. Why don't you show up at the next school board meeting and tell everyone your idea?

Bullying? Is that the excuse? So what! Kids we’re being bullied since the day they invented group activities.
What’s different now is coping skills and parenting ability/involvement . Kids can’t deal with stress, cant deal with opposing views and actions and everything has to be extreme with them.
Absolute inability to control emotions is the biggest problem and often reinforced by crappy or disconnected parents and enabled buy society (there is no such thing as a looser, everybody gets a trophy).

In the future schools will have a couple of security checkpoints where anybody who enters the school (Including teachers)is put through scanners..these checkpoints will be staffed by armed; trained security personnel..the students will not be allowed to bring anything but themselves dressed in their uniform..no more backpacks & books.. (sorry text-book makers)..they can have their cell phones that are only enabled on school grounds to track their location..the uniform will have microchip tech. on board that monitors their stress levels and alerts security if a student needs to be brought in for "counciling". Since they all are dressed the same it should cut way down on "I'm expressing my individuality" confrontations and bullying.

I do a great decending funnel!
