Well...Ok,

A very quick Background. I was born to fly. Aviation is all I have ever cared about.I'v been on Runryder since I was like 16. I grew up worshiping Alan Szabo.I just turned 30 years old- but even though Im in Great shape physically, I feel like an old man at times-- I'v been through A LOT.

I started life learning to fly in a Citabria at age 14. soloed at 16

I then Joined the Army and became a Warrant Officer and went to Flight School at 18 years old...I turned 21 flying in Baghdad...I had an air medal before I had a legal beer. Two combat tours 12 months each/ both stupid wars (as an Air Assault pilot) + Egypt...(theres 3 years of my life) ....I did a total of 8 years active duty...I turned down CW3 and got out Sep2014...Im not guard or reserve...I just straight up quit...honorably.

I spent two years flying in western Alaska...Grant aviation Part 135...moving soda pop and Native Alaskans around their villages. ( flying airplanes)...you want to talk about the bush???

I even got a float plane rating!!!....ya...I havnt flown floats since my checkride.

5 months flying for a Regional Airline--- Peninsula Airways Part 121 going fron Anchorage to Dutch Harbor, St Paul, St George Islands...woooohooo Flying a SAAB 340...30 passengers ....and making 20K a year!!!

two years flying out in CA as a Utility Helicopter pilot...(UH-60 blackhawks as a civilian) fire fighting and wire work...but I got some Huey time, Bell 214, Md530, L3, B407, ---a lot of cool exposure...If you want to talk about the Fire Fighting CIRCUS!!!

and Now iv come full circle BACK to my hometown in Country bumpkin Western TN- where I spend my days flying for a Helicopter Air Ambulance operator.

hahahah--I also have 4 kids....11,9,3, & 6 months. married to my Junior High sweet heart.

I don't have too many posts on RR....Im more of a RR stalker??? I'm afraid of the internet and you will not find me on social media (maybe my wife- but not me.) ---old carry over from the Army and not wanting my possible captors to learn about me.

uhmmmm OK. here's my Idea of how this works.

Maybe your Younger maybe your Older? no matter where your at in life, If YOU have questions about FLYING for a living--- post your questions...I would rather you Not PM me unless its super personal.

I want this to be an open conversation so that others that may have the same questions can get the same help.

Im not a SUPER egotistical person- but If I didn't give ya my background then you wouldn't know what I may or may not know.

I simply find myself flying medevac right now....which means if the radio aint going off I'm chilling...for 12 hours a day.... week on week off.

I have time on my hands....finally....And soo many people in life helped me get to where I got- I want to RETURN the Favor. I want to help people become pilots, or land a cool job. This is my community service. This is MY contribution to Runryder!

Disclaimer---ya...I got a CRAP ton of ratings...but I don't have my CFI's...I failed my Oral (no flight) in Alaska (some good advice there to avoid a certain DPE!!!)...the jerk just stole my $800 bucks. I refused to RE-test out of principle.

with that being said I have never failed a checkride or oral before that. And I took that coming fresh off A unrestricted Multi-Engine ATP & Type rating.

oh ----so ya---if its like a CFI question...I can try but no promises.

with THAT being said----OTHER Pirates...feel FREEEEE to jump in and Add to the conversation and the Help...please I insist...

A typical question might be like....

Wow Jim...I'm a Junior in high school, Can I really go straight to the Army and Fly Helicopters?????

Call me Jim and lets get started!

Cheers.

Having only known you for a short time (Killeen) and experiencing your fun personality you could start a Youtube channel. People with a skill set and backgound to support what you say are valued and generate a good following that often leads to Monetization... If you have alot of time just sitting around, might as well make it productive, and going that route requires only a laptop and a camera.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Well thank you guys for the comments. Ya man Iv always remembered you, I remember you were doing some pretty brainy stuff, machining your own Helicopter parts! I always really impressed with that - thinking maybe one day I could have that kind of skill.

You are probably right about the youtube stuff, I guess Im just kind of keeping it simple for now, and I'm not looking for money, I can't really condone it as "Professional Advice"....but in all reality it is.

like some pilots I have been a bit of a Tramp...I found my way into some pretty unique fields of aviation, where as some pilots Pick 1 and stay with it for life.

Here are the Areas I can speak Intelligently On.

ROTC Scholarships and how to get them. I got 4 of em...but had a Baby instead.

University of North Dakota, UND HFTP scholarship- I was awarded it- but had a baby instead of going to college. its a 100K+ scholarship to fly helicopters in college

How not to have a Baby at 18!---ok that one is a joke- but seriously

Life in the Army- in general.

U.S. Army High School to Flight School Program...yes, at 18 with no degree

Life in the Army as a Warrant Officer UH60 pirate

Transitioning OUT of the Army Into Civilian Aviation----(turns out we're not Gods)

Life as a Bush Pirate- Part 135 small planes in Western Alaska...
I'm still alive!!!!! I can't believe it!!!

Life as Regional Airline First Officer- Part 121, ...SAAB 340--
(what's the difference Between an F.O. and a Large Pizza? A large pizza can feed a family of 4!)

Life at a Top Notch Utility Helicopter Company- PJ Helicopters, Red Bluff CA

Life on the Road Fighting Fire with Helicopters- All Fire season Long. Perhaps you have heard of FireHawk, Billings Air Service, Columbia, Siller Brothers, Chroman, Erickson, Rodgers, Raineer, Heli express, HP Helicopters, USFS, Cal Fire, Kachina....1 day at a heli base is your best Interview!!!

Life as a Copilot in a UH60 while your Civilian only Captain Long Lines. Fear Not- they can fly better than YOU!!! ( military only guys)

Life as a Helicopter Air Ambulance pilot. I am LOVING it.

PILOT RESUME' Help....I got this down to a science! it only took a Civilian....Trust me guys and Gals No one cares how many Medals you have from the Military...its sad but true.

Jim you've pretty much answered your own question... right there those topics could interest many thousands of people. If you do a search on YouTube, honestly how many of them have quality content related to those specific subjects. There are literally hundreds of pilots leaving the Army and bumbling their way into civilian life right now, some successful , other not so much. Many of them may benefit from that information. Youtube also enables you to use affiliate links which when someone clicks on your link in the description, you get credit for that referral, be it discounts, money, or credit, this could be one hell of a side gig especially if you have time to spare.
Also, many kids would love to be pilots straight out of High School, but other than going to a recruiter what do they have? Ask any kid in high school about talking to a recruiter and the fear of being scammed is a very common reaction. They are often told that recruiters lie to you for the purpose of reaching recruitment goals. Wouldnt it be great if they had someone to listen to that is no longer in the military, but yet gained such a wealth of information and experience from it as to be worthwhile in the end? The internet is full of people that are both honest and dishonest about what to expect and what to do, someone who has you background and experience would benefit quite a few with the same interest.

The trick is structuring your content and building a following. Production value from on site videos, lighting, sound and even interviews with others in the field are all key to a great start. Learning to use proper spoken English, humor and clear train of thought are big attribute to successful youtubers that provide learning from their experience.

As long as i can remenber i have wanted to be a pirate. Sail around enjoying the easy life, a little rape, do some pillaging, perhaps an occasional plunder or two, and then some more rape. An eye patch, a couple flint lock pistols, the big cannons, casks of Rum... Arrrr.

Only 20%?
Thanks! I also snore like a bear. That might be worth a few percent. With just a little work on my YAARRRRR! (registered TM of Pirate Incorporated) that would help a little too.

Sea sick is a problem for me too. I hear folks ussually get over it after a couple days.
