I admire craftsmanship! Guess I'll have to keep looking ......

He could have bought some real exhaust tubing and saved money over all those galvanized pipe fittings.

Well. He's in in garage using tools and his hands. I don't know if a 50lb bodged exhaust on a 5 horse minibike is an upgrade, but hey, it's not a video game. Sure, I might have done a few things differently, including not welding it permanently to the frame, but I'm not the one out in the shed fusing metal with fire. Who am I to judge?

I like to see folks gettin' out there doing something even if the results isn't 100% perfect.

And no - it will not go faster. Not without changing the gearing.

Thanks for sharing.

If you're going to ride a motorized Huffy, you've got to be at peace with who you are. There is a very good chance you're going to look like Pee-wee Herman. If you can't let the haters hate, stick to Harleys.

Once you start looking around you notice they are kinda available everywhere. I got mine from eBay but I don't remember exactly which seller. Search for "bike motor kit" or something similar. The whole kit can usually be bought for about 130 bucks. More entertaining is that most accessories are equally inexpensive.

It's a pretty cool little hobby but know that buying an engine kit is just the beginning. Mine came with instructions but they amounted to "do something good" so expect to be "crafty". You will likely have to, or at least want to, buy an after-market mount. Almost immediately you will probably decide the included sprocket and chain tensioner have to go. After that there are a lot of other options to personalaize you "ride".

Here are a few links to get you started:

Thanks for the info. I did start looking after I asked you and I saw one that looked like it was probably the one you have. I have a friend that electrified one of his bikes. I rode it one time and it was scary fast for a bicycle.

When people see my motorized Huffy they almost always ask, "How fast does it go?". There are an assortment of usual questions but "how fast" comes up pretty quick. Short answer is that it cruises comfortably at about 20-22 mph. The longer answer is, it depends on what sprocket you put on the back. I have several. The still longer answer is, how fast do you really want to go on a $75 Walmart Huffy? You can't sit on the racing Huffy too long before you begin to wonder if a bike made for beach cruising at 3 or 4 mph will hold up very well with a 6hp motor, an extra 50lbs of engine/fuel, and doing 25mph. If I could get it up to 60 mph, would you really want to?
