From RC Japan...
Hello from RC Japan team!
Hatori will be closing their company in 2 days.
We are receiving your new order until Friday morning. (Japan Time)

* The sale ends when all the stock is sold out *

Old news? If so, sorry for post. News to me, and very sad.

Chris, the writing has been on the wall for sometime. Folks have quit flying to a large degree.

Beat me to it. I got the same message just a few minutes ago.

It's sad that this hobby really seems to be dying. This doesn't seem as much like the typical "ebb and flow" I had hoped for, but more like the death rattle of a slow and agonizing departure of the hobby. I really do hope I am wrong.

I've been at a lost to understand what they were doing since they discontinued the OS 1.05 pipe shortly after OS released the engine. OS has finally made an engine that I personally find faultless and Hatori announces they are discontinuing pipes for it. I have 4, 1.05s currently installed. Two have Funtech mufflers, one has an OS PowerBoost and the last has the discontinued Hatori. I like them all but guess which is my favorite...

And Hatori should have been able to make money on the damn things. An SB-22FH was $250 USD before they were discontinued.

Anyway. It's a little sad. Their product has been a staple for decades. I'll put Hatori on the same list as Macs pipes.

I love Twinkies. I never buy them but they are delicious. No one can argue that.

Fantastic.
Never met a twinkey or hatory I didn't like. Sad to see them go. Thankfully Hostess is back. Wishful thinking, but perhaps Hatory may make a return?

The problem with a declining hobby is that the manufacturers have to adapt or die.
Adapting for Hatori would have meant rising their prices significantly.
Would you be willing to pay $500 for a Hatori pipe for your OS 105HZ-R?

Good new pipes are being manufactured, but their prices reflect their position as a product for a boutique market.

It's not only that the hobby has been declining in recent years, but electric power sales have significantly outpaced glow power sales.

It seems like it would be easy enough to cut some of those pipes in half and reverse engineer them to create the same performance..if and when nitro catches on again; if fuel was not so expensive and hard to obtain..I'm sure there would be more interest in flying nitro's.

I do a great decending funnel!

Let's explore that.

I bought my first Hatori in 1989. It was a U-Pipe for my 1001 X-Cell. In 1989 model helicopters were a very small part of modeling. Even by today's diminished standards, model helicopters were not big. We were a niche at best.

The U-Pipe in 1989 was the pipe to have. It was the pipe pictured on the front of the Miniature Aircraft box. The U-Pipe was two separate purchases. The header and the pipe itself. The header was $39.95 and the pipe was $69.95 for a total of $109.90.

So how does that translate to today? I used the below inflation calculator and plugged in the appropriate numbers and found that the pipe I bought in 1989 for $109 adjusted for inflation should cost around $220. Compare that to the last Hatori pipe I bought, an OS 1.05 pipe for $250, and it appears that Hatori pipes have actually gone up in price - even though model helicopters are still very much more popular than they were in 30 years ago.

No. I think Banshee probably got it right. Hatori, like Macs, was the vision of an individual and he's tired of it.

Some people say nitro is making a comeback. I say that it already has. There were more nitro helis being flown at the Birmingham event this year than there were electric. Nitro is Back.
