Ok guys, I am planning to order my Diabolo 700 next week.

As you know, I've been planning on the UL (with sliding battery tray) for over a year and my primary goal was to have a light (11-11.5lb heli) similar to a Logo 600 SE, but that can be flown HARD without any mechanical failure.

I've been 99% sure that the 700UL was right model for the job as the 700 Black seemed too heavy for my preference.

Now, I see Minicopter has changed the regular 700 for 2018 by making it lighter weight.

Looking at the specs, it appears that the main difference between it and the 700UL is that the new 700 uses the lower frame of the black edition.

I'm not sure if that means the new 700 has the removable (600 style) frame panel to access the gears.

The main shaft, head spindle, and tail shaft are all listed as having the same diameters as the UL.

Can anyone tell me if they see (or know) what other differences are?

Before I make the commitment and purchase, is there any reason I might want to go with the new 700 2018 version instead of the UL?

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Think of the UL as a stretched 600 with a dampened head with two swash drivers instead of the single DFC link. The new 700 is a full sized model but with some parts like the lower frames changed to reduce weight to fall between the BE and the UL.

Make sense?

The Black edition flies really nice, I am sure the UL and 2018 fly great also. There is more a difference in what you want from the model between the 3. If you want the ultra light weight then maybe the UL is for you. The 2018 has the more DFC style head if that is what your looking for, it is more of a half DFC.

With the BE lower frames, one can mount the standard canopy or the new 3D 600 canopy without any modification.

Thanks Ben, Wes, and Chris.

I've decided to stick with the UL. It not so much that I want ultra lightweight. I just want standard lightweight

Something tells me the new 700 would still end up almost as heavy as my Logo 700.

@Chris, I do intend to buy the standard canopy, so does that mean I will have to do some modification to the UL to fit it?

If so, what kind of modification?

I'm hoping it's not necessary.

I don't have a UL so I can not speak from that point of view. I have BEs and the old standard D700. The standard canopy can be put on both but the new 3D canopy can not put on the standard D700 without cutting the bottom edge of the canopy in order to clear the lower frame.

Ok. When you said:

I assumed you meant the UL as the Peak order page gives that option:
"Choose lower frame of Black Edition (D624) or Light Weight style (D440)"

I'm not interested in the smaller light weight canopy as I think the standard one looks much better.
