Thought I heard someone say this at the flying club. Could be wrong but wondering. Thanks

It has been in development for over a year. The prototype was flown at IRCHA—I think that’s where it was, I didn’t go. See the video. But, based on radio silence for the past 3 months from MSH it has apparently been shelved.

Why? For how long? Your guess is as good as just about anyone else’s.

That's where I saw the videos from, thanks Cuda. I knew I had read about it, perhaps in Model Aviation. I did watch a few videos of it...Frankly I don't follow MSH and don't know a whole lot about them, but that machine seemed to be OK. It looked as if the team pilots were beating on it pretty good at IRCHA.

Interesting. Yeah now that I think of it we haven't heard much, have we? It looks like a nice machine. I can't say that I'd swipe my card the day they were released, but I still believe that a good variety will make everything better.

I have the v2 max, which has now been upgraded with Leggero (lighter) and Evo (wraparound canopy and carbon boom) and am very happy with it. I have the good fortune to be within driving range of MSH USA and see the reps/pilots at all our local fun flys. So, I know the electric platform is solid.

However, since you can’t run a nitro with a belt (motor to main gear), the whole drivetrain has to be reworked. So, I knew there was a lot more R&D to do than just slapping in a motor and reprinting the box.

I can’t speculate on the issues. It may just be a soft market right now. Who knows?

Why would that be? Kyosho did it for years quite successfully.

Anything is possible if you don't know what you are talking about!

Hate to hear of a pilot without a ride. Are you specifically wanting the MSH? There are a fair amount of really good, supported helicopters out now if you don't want to wait.

It is flying season after all.

You’d need a motor capable of running backward, or be fine running the blades CCW.

I think the pushback from the modern crowd would be too much to risk releasing a CCW head. And, neither OS nor Weber make the reverse running engine any more. So…

if it ain't broke, break it.

No. That's not accurate. Take a look at the Caliber mechanics. It's not a "backward" running engine.

You seemed to have missed the point of having to rework the mechanics. There’s no way to just slap a nitro engine in the existing MSH and call it a day.

Perhaps I have. Wouldn't be the first time...my apologies.

It sort of is. There are some good choices out there though that are current and in production:

Synergy -> You know what you got there. I've never flown one, but seen hundreds of them.

Align -> never flown one of these, but I got to put my hands on wjvail's 700XN at Birmingham and it looked quite good. It flew well also.

TSA -> I fly a 700N. It's a pretty good machine and surprisingly cheap.

Quest -> If you win the lottery you could buy a Neo-Caliber 120/720

Hirobo -> It looks like hirobofanusa is selling Freya kits.

There's likely some I'm missing, but there are a few out there still being produced. Not like 8-10 years ago, but the hobby was booming then. Still, if MSH does bring a 90 model to market, it would certainly add to a rather short list.

Just got news from Facebook that it's on hold. Until they can figure out how to hook up a belt to a slimer.

IMO rubber belts and nitro don't mix, due to the slime leftover from burnt fuel plus the nitric acid tends to eat them.

MSH has admitted that the official Protos Max Nitro will not have a main drive belt. It will use a pinion and gear, which I argued doesn't make it a Protos anymore. The aftermarket conversion does run backward because they're running a belt.

The advantage was always the low noise from the single belt drive but as it's a nitro it would be irrelevant!

60% of the time, it works every time!
