Hey all. Been enjoying the turbine life thanks to everyones help, However ive run into a small problem. On a dead cold start, the engine will fire right up perfect, run great and seemingly perform flawlessly. However if i shut the engine off to make an adjustment, let it auto-cool, the engine will fire on gas, ramp up to fuel but then not ramp all the way, it blows fire and gets extremely hot. Of course after shutting it down it auto cools to under 100 C, i usually let it go to about 80 C before attempting to restart, but it does this every..single..time. HOWEVER, if i let it cool to 100% ambient temp, it starts and runs perfect, Every time.

It acted like this on its first start, and i discovered i had a kink in the fuel line, after fixing that it has run perfect on its cold starts. There are NO bubbles in the fuel line, and i have replaced the pump with a spare and it still acts exactly the same. This is running on the older fadec with the telephone style data connection.

I have no issue letting it cool off to start again, it just takes forever, and i wouldnt think its supposed to be this way. Or am i just asking to much of her?

I had this on my Predator MW54 and it did indeed turn out to be an air issue even though there were no visible bubbles. If you can download the data from the terminal it can be seen if this is the case. I don’t remember the actual data string to show it but if you can get that we will get underway with it

As Above post rightly suggests.
Do a data download, and put up the numbers, on a flamout issue some years ago a pred/wren flyer had we could see on the data that his stick was at full power and the pump was pumping hard, his rpm was up at 115,000 then suddenly out goes the flame indicated by the temp drop even though the stick position and pump rate remain unchanged and then the engine began to spool down,we could even see that the pump didn't stop until the engine was at 31,000rpm hence all the white smoke he saw.
The data showed even the speed of his reactions too.

Just out of interest, what is your turbine settings within the ECU, Accel/Decel, Stability,

Check that all screw fasteners between the first and second stage are tight. Any pressure loss will result in this condition

How does one go about a data download? I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere in the manual nor in the menus.

Remember it only does this when warm, cold starts are perfect. Ill get accel and decel settings soon.

I also had a similar issue. I found my problem to be the starter motor or the Bendx was not retracting as it should. My o-ring on the front of the Bendx had become worn and sticky holding the advancing rpm back causing exhaust flames and over temp shut down. The o ring was slipping and becoming pretty warm enhancing the sticking issue. I changed the o ring and everything worked fine. Just my thoughts on my similar issue. Thanks, Dave

Update:

Airplanejunkie, you hit it on the head! I had the starter a smidge to close, and it wasnt disengaging. I moved it back about .5mm and all is right in the world now.

Thank you guys! She flies great!

Nice result, glad you got it sorted, simple to fix, would never had considered the bendix as it normally squeels if ring worn or slips..

good bit of info..

I actually figured it out a few weeks ago and have been flying it since. I just used a generic oring from the auto parts store. So it may not behave quite like the real deal. I flew about 3 gallons thru it, and now have a new issue to deal with. Its always something..
