Hey all as the title says I am back after a lengthy break and I see the hobby has drasticly changed. I need to get new gear and not really sure what to get. I see some good deals on nitro machines but I also see alot of them are not made anymore. It seems nitro is pretty dead and it is mostly electric? Any input would be greatly appreciated and if this is in the worng place just let me know and I will gladly move it
I should also add I am on a bit of a budget I still have tings like my Futabab 9c radio, not sure if it is anygood anymore and i see hobbyking sells a module to convert to 2.4?
Thanks

You could convert your 9c to 2.4 easily enough, thats a good radio. What helis do you have? Or did you get rid of everything? Seems only the purists are still flying nitro, but thats ok cause it makes them cheap for everyone who still wants to fly them.

More importantly,

welcome back!

Lets Fly!

Bailey-
Im in the same boat. Got my license flying real planes, got instrument rated, bought an airplane, flew for 7 years, sold it and here I am again. Last dates on my gear are 2002. An attic full of raptors,a crashed Hirobo shuttle, an un flown fury, even a 6 foot long Vario bubble canopy gasser.
I went to the local hobby shop and found out that electric is really coming on strong. I love to build things but I never really got proficient at flying. So, I bought a Real Flight 8 sim which I try to fly every night and I bought two electric Blades ( one trio and one two blade) and a good charger. These choppers are great right out of the box and Im doing a stable hover now. In the meantime im pecking away at the older nitro machines trying to get them flying. 60 size raptor is big and heavy but its stable. Engines that sit for 12 years gum up so its a challenge but the e-machines are a lot of fun and not too bad on the wallet. My two cents. David

I have a little of the new gear, but my old radios and gear were a blast several years ago, and still are.

I can't go to the LHS and pick up parts for my old toys anymore, but that is true for the new ones as well. Rough times for RC, but in many cases you can still get what you need, just takes a little more time to find it.

A lot of Raptor parts are available on e bay. Quick UK still provides some great upgrades, their clutches are a must have IMO.

50 size with an OS 50 is my favorite. There are quite a few sitting around in folks garages. I have 3 sitting around, but i do not want to sell them. Ask around, maybe post a WTB add,,, some one may part with a good one for cheap.

There is a very handy thread in the thunder tiger forum here, life extension tips, alternative drive belt sources and all kinds of good tips there.
