The three servos on the front tray are as follows. The forward most servo is the collective. It moves the rear most servo to provide collective control. The rear most servo is roll control. The middle servo is tail rotor control. The servo below the tray is throttle. The servo to the rear of the main shaft is elevator.

Do not set the transmitter to either 120 or 140. This is not a CCPM control system. Use a standard Heli set up. On Futaba it is called H1; don’t know what Spektrum calls their standard (not CCPM) mode.

The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

I am sure the DX will work, you just need to find the correct swash setting. I'm a Futaba guy so I know next to zero about Spektrum. I'll look at one of my flying bud's the next time I'm at the field (I'm snowed in right now) and get back to you. I did take a quick look at a manual on line and it looks to me like the correct setting might either be "normal" or maybe "4 @ 90d". Maybe someone who knows can let you know the correct setting before then.

The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

X-Cell Manuals
If you need a manual for your X-Cell, check here: http://alshobbysite.com/rchelibase/xcell/

I have four X-Cells, now. All set up on Frsky Taranis and didn't need any swashplate setting within the radio. I previously used Futaba and didn't need to change the swash setting, either.

A DX9 will work, just use normal in the swash setup. That's the swash type for a mechanical mix heli, like the Thunder tiger Raptors and the old X-cells. Plug the roll servo, the rocking servo, into the Ail port on the receiver, the back servo, the one near the tail boom, into the Ele port and the collective pitch servo, the front one on the servo tray that moves the rocking servo, into channel six. All the basic setting are done in servo setup in the transmitter. I've set up a Raptor 50 and an old Robbe Futura SE on a friends DX8 and DX20 using normal swash, the DX9 works the same as those two.

BTW, I have several old X-cells, including an X-cell 46.

1 is collective, 2 is rudder, 3 is aileron (roll). Do not set the swash setting on the transmitter to 120 or 140, set it to normal.

The older I get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

What helitom said. Also, you may want to move the collective pushrod to the other side of that servo, to get a straight shot toward the roll servo.

You shouldn't have to set anything in your DX9 for the swashplate. Go with the default setting.

In your DX9 manual, pages 35 and 36: https://www.horizonhobby.com/pdf/SPMR9900-Manual_EN.pdf

I'll try again. As already said, using page 35 for reference, go into the transmitter and set swash type to normal, no other type will work. Then plug servo one into AUX1, servo two into RUD and servo 3 into AIL on the receiver. The servo behind the swashplate plugs into ELE on the receiver. Once done, after power up, only servo 3 should move when you move the aileron stick, only the servo behind the swash (elevator) should move when you move the elevator stick and only servo 1 should move when you move the collective/throttle stick. Servo 2 should move when you move the rudder stick.

It is best to have the ball links off the servos at first to keep from overdriving the servos. Go into servo setup and reverse any servos that aren't moving the right direction. Make sure you have a linier curve in your transmitter for pitch curve going from 0 to 100, then use end point in servo setup to set the amount of roll and elevator on the swash and the max amount of positive and negative collective pitch.

On your picture, it would be best if you cut off the unused side of the horn off you rudder servo, then you could move the link going from servo 1 to servo 3 to the opposite side, making servo 1 output more linier.

I hope this helps, it's the best I can explain it.

Something like this...
This is my X-Cell 46 after setting for 10 years in storage. It's been rebuilt and old servos replaced. The Futaba S3001 is collective. Hitec HS-425BB is tail rotor (rudder). The one to the right is roll (aileron).
