Custom Frame I have three discontinued helis so when the unavoidable happens I will have to cut my own side frames.
I don´t have a CNC machine at home and my programing knowledge sucks. I will have to cut my own side plates by hand and from scratch. So for those of you that have done custom side frames what do you think is best to start with; a router or a scroll saw?? Any info and pics about this matter will be apreciated. |

The CF will dull any saw's blade so fast you may not be able to cut one frame.I would recommend a highspeed router with a carbide bit. Like this: https://www.toolstoday.com/solid-ca...outer-bits.htmlDo a rough cut and then use a fine grain carbide bit to get to down tothe final shape.Make sure to wear a good dust mask - CF dust will kill you.If you are cutting G10 PC Board material, I will still use the carbide bits. But, the dust won't kill you.If you are cutting aluminum, then just use whatever fine-tooth blades you have around Believe 1/2 of what you see and none of what you hear. Fake News will be the downfall of our Republic! |

I have no experience and I think it is a good idea to focus on cutting carbon fiber right from the start. I have a JR Vibe 50 Nex, Synergy N5, Rave ENV and JR Vibe 90SG. All ready to fly except the N5 because it was crashed last november and needs new frames. I do have replacement side frames for all these helis. If I want to cut my own side frames then I need to use a stock side frame as a sample/template to cut a plain G10 or carbon plate. Getting another frame set for the N5 is not a good idea because I will be limited to use that finished piece for that specific heli. A plain sheet of G10 or CF can be used for any heli, when needed, if I manage to cut it and the cost of a plain sheet is about the same as a stock side frame set. All helis will be discontinued at some point as well as replacement parts. A used discontinued heli has very low resale value so I would get little dollar and then I would have to pay top dollar for a new current kit. I prefer to spend that money on tools for cutting my own parts. I like RC helis and the idea of making my own parts has become a new hobby for me. |

You can buy it from McMaster-Carr in Atlanta. Not expensive and works great. Good luck with your project ! |
