Davetherave, I think I have you all beat even more...
Last time I flew helicopter was '97 or '98. Was a GMP Cobra with OS 45 and Pro-Head, run by JR Century 7 and a "gasp" mechanical G-154 gyro. (I still own it and is in excellent condition for a 30-year-old helicopter). Got real heavy into Sailplanes after that.
Been out of RC for about 8 years(you know, life took over). Real excited getting back in. Santa brought me a new MCPS and Specktrum DX6 to practice in the house and get my fingers and orientations back again. (okay, whose idea was it to go back to AA alkalines on TX's?). Also picked up a good Blade SR for outside when it warms up again here. The future goal is to get that Cobra up and flying again. I also have a rare, built but never flown GMP Hughes 300 that belonged to my father. Would like to see that fly someday. It's been a steep (Re)-learning curve and the RR Forum has been a great help and one of the best. Good job!

Geesh coming back to the Hobby and all this hubbub about the FAA and the AMA and what you can and can't do anymore what a pain in the butt.

only you have the power to make no difference!

It’s just a lot of noise. And, sure it matters in the long run to have those discussions.

But, after the dust all settles I still pay my AMA dues and go out every weekend and fly like I always have.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

if it ain't broke, break it.

I'm in the same boat as a lot of you. It's been way too long, since a little after the economy tanked under Baraq Hussein. I did get heavily into drones/aerial photography and now planes, big ones and jets and 3d. They are so much less expensive overall and much, much less maintenance and tinkering. I do miss the helis. One day...

I was Spektrum when Spektrum wasn't cool

FBL feels a little different on take off and landing in my opinion. otherwise its about the same as a good FB set up in flight. it does hold a solid hover with less effort and level flight better.

now that being said one set up poorly flies worse than a FB with the paddles out of wack.
found this out after test flying a buddys 1st FBL set up to find out he didn't exactly follow the steps... he didnt think it really made a difference- it does

only you have the power to make no difference!

Last flight was 30 October 2011, so little over 6 years. Not long now until the Helis will be released once more! Had a Phantom 3 drone to play with - technologically good fun, but can't compare that to this hobby. Can't wait.

hey rockin bird- I hear ya, may be time to look at one of those new FBL choppers- I just bought a blade myself and its too much for me right now- I think the raptor 60 will be a more stable platform until my stick skills get back up there

Hey guys, I was out from 2001 to about 2010, really see the changes in electronics, I agree with the FBL vs flybarred comments. I was more a fixed wing guy at the time but its been a fun learning experience picking up some of these cheap used flybar helis and converting to FBL, now that I can afford them!

Over 6 years for me, a divorce took the passion away but I'm feeling the itch. I have an immaculate Vibe 90 and a Raptor 50, but now the question is should I try and upgrade at least the raptor to a more modern setup or just get a new heli, maybe 600 size electric. The old gear is looking pretty obsolete given neither are manufactured any longer.

Great to hear of people coming back after long absence from the hobby. Most important thing is get back in the air, doesn't matter what it is, and relax and have fun.

Me also...its like we are all waking up at once. The great heli comeback. I flew last weekend for the first time in forever. Loving all the new technology. Last weekend I went to the field where it all started for me...https://rc.runryder.com/t251653p1/

Count me in too. Back after 6ish years. Got the itch late last fall and have been busy building a couple of kits as well as getting the old nitro birds torn down and assessed for repairs. Believe it or not as much hate as the drones seem to get, my purchase of a DJI drone and flight sparked me back up for heli flying
