Gang,

Here is a pic of my build.. I have prioritized the important call outs to of the build.

Maybe this photo explains the culprit?

Got 10 glorious flights in today. Moved a few sliders here and there in the Demon software trying to get the AUTOPILOT feature to work, but was unable. Looks like I am going to have to fly the dang thing myself. I'll have a few extra hard hats with me at the NATS in case anyone needs one while I am flying.

Was boat racing this weekend.. I will get back to the machine this week...

I want to thank all those that PM or messaged me (OR POSTED) to see what they CAN do to help.

So you know..the main shaft runs true BUT the head not so much.. (I bought the mechanics used).. The spindle is true but the machine shook BAD. SO.. I will RE-CHECK the blades and head block.. and the way all that s%$# is put together...

Update when I can.

I did remove the mechanics and build a set of stiffening plates for the upper frame section. The frame sides, from what i understand, are NOT vario but some other MFGs side frames. I had changed the way the servos mount in the machine to better make use of 120deg swash and balancing the arm lengths. Anywho.. the aluminum was very thin and I beefed it up with some .080 carbon fiber. Also.. I found the screws in the upper shaft block to be a tick shorter then they should have been. I still need to go back through the head.

Time is short.

I hope to get out a practice soon as well get the new bird tuned. I went though my controller setup and found one thing I missed.. it was setting the PIT Center position on the CGY-750. Not sure how I missed that one. Anyway. it was likely part of the issue with the instability on lift off.

Emile,

To me.. if one can.. why not take advantage of a flybarless system?

Understand I am not in the "take advantage" realm yet BUT.. I want to ether put on a Vario scale 212 head or make my own scale flybar for the head I have now. (thats my plan).. Today.. this week and for the summer.. I will fly the head "out of scale" and concentrate on the rest of the build and flying to get me though.

Not sure this helps point out my view at this time.

Ok I get that. But from the look/sound of things it was being difficult to set up and feeling comfortable. Just remembering the issues you had with the ec145 before you felt comfortable enough to compete with it. With my marvelcraft 407 it flew very well enough without an fbl system that I saw no further advantage I using one. Itsavedme the frustration or extra effort of installing and setting one up.

Thanks.. and yes.. it still might comes down to the FB going back on. For the most part i have a host of very good guys to ask questions on regarding the setup of that system.. every one is 9 to 10 hours away.. BUT.. its a good group. I have been speaking with Gary Wright this week and he is coming up soon (19th) and we can attempt to whip a tune on it then as well. (we have a FANTASTIC fun fly coming up and he is going to fly with us.. (after we play Princeton Valley Golf of course!)..

I will be putting in as many practice flights as I can from now until the nats.

One more note on this machine. I LOST because of my static score last year. I told myself I needed to up my static game. IF.. the heli is not flying well I wont fly it BUT..it will static. If i up my score from last year its a win for me.. Some day it will all come together!

THANK YOU EMILE for your help and concern. The people make this hobby great.. except for Steve the Trouble maker Smith.. he is weird!

Steve you are a nut but a talented one
Mike don't get me wrong, I'm not against the use of an fbl unit, but personally I use one only when I feel it necessary like with my Lakota. I flew that machine for 2 years without one and unless it was dead calm winds, it was a handful. At the last minute I stuck an AR7200BX in it and it was a nightmare of a different kind too because I had little time to figure out how to set it up even with the help of the gods (Stan and Darrell). finally Mark Smith, Darrell and Kirsten had mercy on me and presented me with a Bavarian Demon and the Lakota sprung to life and took 1st at last year's Nats. Much of that was owed to the demon's super easy user friendly setup menu. (If Darrell can do it anyone can lol) so, long story short I use it where it helps.
Well as I won't be at the bats this year my advice to all contestants is to 1st get your practice in and participate but more importantly, if you make the goal to have a great time, you will be pleasantly rewarded. see you guys at Ircha!

Just to be clear.. i am not upset or frustrated the heli did not fly off the bench.. i am CHALLENGED!

Another thing.. I am not much of an electic guy.. Ooooo.. I know.. for shame!.. but.. This bird is a 10S bird (AND NO I aint going to change it right now).. I have a nice set of 5S 5000s for the bird.. My contest flight is just around 6 minuets. I dont want to add a FB at this time because of this too. I figure why drag that S*&^ around the head when I am going to be pushing the flight time. (I might have to adjust my flight routine anyway but dont want to if I dont have to).

Then.. the rest of my Decals came in from Callie. What a fantastic product she makes. Her service is super.

I also have the pilot side water nozzle head and lead pipping done.

Note to ones self.. Select a simpler machine next time....... the amount of detail on this one is extensive. Its been fun but its extensive.

I'm sure, I make it to the NATS this year and you bail on me!! I see how it is......

And I have 2 goals for my first NATS:
1. Help whomever, whenever, wherever and however I can.
2. Complain to Mark about EVERYTHING, ALL THE TIME.
