Good Grief!! That is, or could be, a big blow all around, if this goes
through! Aren't they THE exclusive for Futaba/OS/etc ??

And could this impact Tower Hobbies big time as well?

Big big player in the business since I discovered this hobby

Pretty sure Hobbico formed when they bought Great Planes as well as Tower.

Edit: Yes, it's in the article. I bet they try to keep it all going until a buyer is found. Or IF a buyer is found.

This is an excerpt from the article

http://www.news-gazette.com/news/lo...yoffs-next.html

"Hobbico was formed in 1986 when Clint Atkins combined two companies he bought: Don Anderson's Great Planes Model Distributors and Bruce Holecek's Tower Hobbies, which was founded in 1971"

So I would gather all above is at risk at the moment.

I hope they can restructure and survive.. We have had way too many assaults on our beloved hobby these past few years.

When one falls another is born. Check out a new startup by big names in the R/C industry:

Flex Innovations

I don't have any affiliations with this company.

Hobby King is having an effect

I only purchased from Hobby King to try out lipo batteries. It was a total waste of money. Batteries were demoted to starter duty.

I now avoid them 100%. I would rather pay more to support American, Japanese and Taiwan business. I would love to cut China out 100%, they are not a friendly country.

Everyone has their own opinion of Hobby King. Mine has been very good. They have some great lipo batteries. I have purchased a few other things from them. I will put their NanoTech brand up against almost all others.

To stop this carnage, buy from your local hobby shop or at the very least, state side internet hobby shop. Be willing to pay a bit more but be part of the solution. Penny pinching is short sighted. Hobby king is a flat rip off, proven time and time again.Stop spending your hard earned cash with dishonest businesses.

Supporting hobby king may save you $100 a year but it’s flat killing this hobby.

To stop this carnage, buy from your local hobby shop
what Local Hobby Shop?

90% are stuck having to order online.... the locals never kept up with what was in demand and there wasnt enough cashflow for most of these places to stay open to begin with...

wana know how to blow $250,000 on a retail business? start a RC hobby shop.

A hotdog stand has a better chance of making money nowadays.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Our local LHS carries nothing I would pay extra for.
So far I only have good things to say about hobby king in the last 8 years or so.

spending time, paying attention

Hobby king did not kill the hobby its the people who buy from hobby king. Just like tower hobbies did not kill the local hobby shops. If everyone bought from the local hobby shops they would still be there.

that has been debated at length. The issue was the need to stay profitable and the instant gratification crowd made it very difficult to keep a small shop open.

Ive talked with three separate shops, (two of them now closed) and they all say pretty much the same thing.

you got to move product to stay open... small ticket items sell fast but offer little profit per item... big ticket items though make more profit per item they tend to move very slowly.... and the banks are not interested in what your love and interests are... they are interested in liquidity and cashflow... the rent and bills come first. So LHS are stuck catering to stuff that sells, sells fast, and sells often... they also need to have a web presence to make ends meet and that also adds overhead to the business.

lets face it:
fewer and fewer people are interested in playing with physical toys that take significant amounts of money to master and often require you to leave the house to enjoy... people want to be entertained at the least cost and least effort...

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
