Hi,

I really needed some help setting up my new radio Futaba 16SZ with a Futaba CGY750 Flyberless system.
I have been looking into many videos and I know its a new radio but all I like to know after creating a NEW MODEL, what settings are needed to adjusted for initial setup. If someone has this particular radio I will appreciate sharing this setting info and if not then I would really like to know about these initial settings from any futaba radios.

I have gone through many Futaba CGY750 FBL setting videos and now I have pretty good idea but still I can not go on without initial radio setup.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Arshad

Ok,

As you are aware, the vast majority of the tuning of the fbl system occurs in the 750. Transmitter configuration is comparstively minimal.

We use the transmitter for the following:

1. Setting cyclic rate via AFR/dual rate in any flight conditions where you want slower response than the maximum rate set in the cyclic rate menu in the 750.

2. Setting head gain (ail and ele gyro gain adjust as one parameter in 3D mode) and tail gyro gain.

3. Toggling between the two available banks AKA bank switching.

4. Setting head speeds if the 750's internal governor is used.

For #1, you have perhaps three flight conditions plus throttle hold. If you ever do any hovering, set the AFR/dual rate for AIL and ELE to 75% and tune to taste from there. Use some expo if you want as well. Adjust the other flight conditions for the desired cyclic rate. If 100% rate is too fast, then reduce the cyclic rate in the 750 a little. 280-300 d/s is a good start. 510 d/s works well for the tail (also set in the 750). set the maximum rates in the 750, and anything less in a given flight condition in the transmitter.

For #2, set head gain in the transmittter's gyro menu to 70% for aerobatics. Use at least this much in hover. Some models will allow A LOT more in hover if the swash rate for hover only is reduced a good deal. Set tail gain to about 65% for aerobatics or as much as you can run without a wag. In hover you can run about 90%. In the 750, make sure the SBus channels for head gain and rud gain correspond to the transmitter channels that tune those functions.

For #3, refer to the gyro and transmitter manuals and use one of the digital channel to toggle between the two banks. Turn bank switching on in the 750. Assign the bank switching digital channel to your flight condition switch so the banks switch as desired. You don't have to use bannk switching. Many guys just tune the gyro as one bank for all flight conditions.

For #4, I'll reserve comment until I know about how you are handling your governing. If you use the ESC governor, you use the transmitter's throttle curves to set the desired headpseeds in your various flight conditions. The 16 is not unusual in this regard.

Ask specific questions, and I'll fill in any gaps.

SENSER ERR
Many thanks for your help. It is been very helpful.

One thing I forgot to mention which I suppose to is that when I turn ON the Gyro 750, the first screen shot appears is " SENSER ERR"
If I press any key on the 750, the manues move forward fine.
I am connecting this 750 gyro via a Futaba S-BUS.

Is this a problem with 750 unit. How can I check if the sensor or the Gyro 750 is OK ?

I will appreciate any help.

Regards,

Arshad

Dr Ben I also just upgraded my 8FG to the 16SZ. Going to be a learning curve for sure. My question is i should only have to program the transmitter as the 750 has already been set? Still trying to figure out how to set the gains for the trim flight. On my 8 I used switch SF for the different gains for the trim flight. To me the gyro setting menu is a little confusing. Thanks for your help. Chuck

Dr Ben it's been so long since we flew this heli the Version is 1.3. It seems like there was a reason I didn't update the firmware. Should I up date to the newest version and will that effect any of the 750 settings? I'll have to refresh my memory on how to update the 750. I guess I'll be looking at you tube. Thanks again. Chuck

OK on my new computer I don't have the driver for the CUI-2 and can't find it on Futaba's website. I am using Windows 10. My computer tells me the CIU-2 is ready to use but the program doesn't see it. I do have V2 downloaded and extracted as well. Thanks Chuck

I'm out of town until Monday.

Does anyone have the driver they can send Chuck?

Gotta get 2.0 on there. It creates a completely different gyro.

Very near the bottom here --> https://www.futabarc.com/software-updates.html CIU-2 Interface Software

There are instructions that should help. It's been a while since I set up a CIU on my laptop but I remember it going fairly smoothly. Read the update Instructions It's a PDF.

The same page will have 750 V2.0 firmware if you don't already have it.

I have nowhere near Dr.Ben's knowledge as it apples to the 750 but because he won't be available 'till Monday, maybe I can help.

I believe there were some very rare cases where 1.3 might have flown marginally better than 2.0. I think many of them were in scale helicopter applications. It came at the price of more setup time. There is a lot of doubt in the above sentences simply because I installed 2.0 and never looked back - and certainly never regretted it. 2.0 flies extremely well with the simplest setup and still allows adaptation to your flying style.

After having installed 2.0 you should download the 2.0 manual. Download it here --> https://www.futabarc.com/downloads/manuals.html The manual for 2.0 is different enough from 1.3 that it is worth printing again.

I would expect to select "3D" mode vs F3C. I mention this now because 3D will work best for most applications. The defaults and menu structure changes slightly with each mode and selecting 3D will get you started down the right path.

Thanks everyone for the help, and Bill thanks for the link. I got V2 installed now and the radio is programmed. When I get a chance I'll look through the 750 to check settings then when it quits snowing maybe do a trim flight with the new radio. The gyro menu when I got going setting it up it wasn't as bad as I first thought it would be. Thanks an gain everyone. Chuck

Read the manual closely and put the gyro in 3D mode. There is no longer a trim flight as with earlier firmware versions.

Bill,

1.3 was in some cases preferred for FAI versus 1.4, but 2.0 blows them both out of the water.

I would not use it if "Sensor ERR" is there.

Correct. If the Sens Err is present with the sensor plugged in, the gyro should not be flown.

There are a few notes on SENSER ERR on page #8 here (bottom right side) --> http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/cgy750-manual-v2.pdf

The unit wants to be still while it initializes. I've never tried it but you may get a sensor err if you move the unit too much while powering up.

Well I remember there was some discussion about not updating the firmware some time ago but like I said, I updated my units to 2.0 and forgot everything I knew about previous iterations. Thanks.

Info about old firmware definitely takes up RAM folks don't need to waste. I have to remember some of it because sometimes a thread will go two pages before it gets recognized that a customer has old firmware installed.

Everyone else needs to upload 2.0 and go have fun.
