Funny, my Dad's laptop started doing this about 2 months ago. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I bet your laptop's screen is now "Extended" instead of "Mirrored"

Effectively, with Extended, you now have 1 big desktop that spans two displays (the laptop LCD and the TV).

With Mirror, you had 1 small desktop that was mirrored on to 2 display (same picture on the laptop's display and the TV).

If I read your description, there is an icon on the TV display, and you can move the cursor over to the TV and double click

if I read your response right you said "to move the cursor/mouse to the internet explorer icon on the TV and double click, which still doesn't bring the picture from the LT to the TV, the pic still stays on the LT.....now what

funny mine did the same two days ago except I had video but no audio.(I had it through laptop speaker but not through home theater).
One night it was working fine, next day no audio.(only through LP tiny speakers)
I also swapped the cable and wasn't that.
Checked device explorer and the audio driver was missing. No idea how it could have gone AWOL over night.

Did you reset both TV and Laptop?

As in a complete shutdown with power removed.

Also try another HDMI input to TV

I didn't say "You should do that".
You are already doing that.
Which means there is no problem with the video or the HDMI connection - it is actually working.

However, it it not working the way you want it to work.

You need to check to see if the laptop detects the 2nd monitor (the TV) and then adjust how the laptop uses the 2nd monitor (the TV)

You need to go into the Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization, Display, Screen Resolution and confirm there are 2 monitors detected (laptop LCD screen and TV).

Then check to see if the displays are in "mirror" (same desktop image on both monitors) or "extend" (one, big, desktop that spans both monitors).

I think that is the problem. You may be in "extend" and you want "mirror".

Sounds like you inadvertently changed some video settings.

Computers can support multiple monitors. Two being the most common setup. You can have mirrored screens or "spread" the screen over two or more displays. In the screen properties settings, you can select your chosen way of operating. There is also a function that "identifies" which display is which.

For example, you can set "spread" screen, open a window, move that window to the other display and maximize that window on that display while keeping the computer screen for control purposes.

As for the audio, there is a setting to redirect the audio from the computer output to the HDMI connected display (TV).
