I really like the 500 size heli's and have several. I picked up a HK-500 kit cheep so I couldn't pass it up. I had a lot of Align 500 parts so I used Align tail and other parts on the cheep. I had old motors RCM BL500L and ESCs so no expense there. I have some 4 cell 4000mah battery's that don't get used enough so I am going to try them for lower head speed. I would think it would work.
Has anyone tried this on a stock 500? I will post how it goes but it may be a while. It's six degrees out.

I haven't tried running 4S on 500 yet .
I do know for my model the lowest headspeed I can get without issues/ wobbles. Is around 2400 rpm .
I went from dfc to efl to do it and use med dampners. They do sell the softer grey ones which I might try this year.

I will be using the HK flybared head. I am thinking it will be around 1700rpm head speed. That may be to low but at least I can try it. I think I may have some softer dampeners so I can put them in if needed.
I will not be trying it very soon. We were -12 degree's this morning and it's not getting above freezing for two weeks. Not happy with New England. I guess it could be worse.

That's pretty cool. I always thought that 425's were a little short for a 500. Maybe I will try that some day. Looks like the old 500 size is going away. There will be a lot of used ones for sale. Fun and inexpensive to play with.

Well I tried the HK-500 with four cell setup. It's kind of slow and underpowered in feel. If I had 470mm. blades it would have been better. The 425's just don't make enough lift at the lower head speed. I just put in a six cell and everything was back to normal. If I come up with a longer boom and belt maybe I will try it again.
