All,
Subject line says it all...

I've got my Dad's original #1001 XCell 60 in the air again, wow the memories!

It has a Futaba G153BB gyro in it right now, but not sure how the motor is going to last. I have a Futaba G501 gyro in the wings but need a working Futaba S9203 to make it 'correct' with the times! SERVO FOUND!

I'm also looking for Supertigre .61 - .75 carburetor as well. Just because we ran them on everything back in the day... well, because they worked! CARB FOUND!!

I also need a canopy. The one on the model is my original canopy from 1987, but it's a little banged up. The MA USA folks have only the right side... so if you have a left, I'm interested! FOUND!!!

Regards,
Cliff

You mean a vintage 9205 which came with the 501. The 9203 was not a tail servo.

No, 9203.
The 9203 was for the G501, without the “Y”. It was Futaba’s first piezo gyro, rate only, no AVCS. The 9203 was a faster 9201/9202, .11 sec./60 deg vs. .22 sec./60 deg.

Thanks,
Cliff

Leave the 153 in it. Correct for 1987 was not the 501. If you can't hear it spool up, it's not the right gyro! Adding upgrade parts and pieces is a very slippery slope- especially with X-Cell. Add a part hear, upgrade a part there - pretty soon you'll have a carbon SE.

I hear ya!
I pretty much left it like my dad built it. There a few upgrades on it but not enough to ‘SE’ it! I have a ‘U’ pipe for it too. I’ll start a new thread when I get back home and detail with some pics.

I also have a complete #1003 XCell 60 Custom kit with upgrades (predecessor to the SE), circa 1992, if you know anyone looking. I’m not going to build it, already have a Bootlegger and an Aeromaster Too like I flew in ‘79 and ‘81 hanging on the wall. I’m running out of room...

Nice models you have there!

While I have a Carbon SE, I never bought a Carbon SE kit. I bought a 1001 kit in 1986. At some point I put a new head on the 1001. I also put a carbon frame kit on it to replace the bent metal frame. I also put a torque tube conversion on it to replace the wire drive tail. I also put a _____ on it (fill in the blank).

One day I woke up and looked at the box sitting next to my upgraded helicopter and realized I had replaced every part on my 1001 kit and that the original helicopter was in pieces waiting to be reassembled into the original 1986 model. I even still had the original engine and radio gear.

Below is video the Carbon SE built from uncounted X-Cell upgrade kits. The pictures I posted in post #4 are of the 1001 helicopter I reassembled from the parts and pieces I had removed over the years. I still fly both my Carbons SE and re-assembled 1001. I find the Carbon SE to be a spectacular flying helicopter and a joy to take out. The 1986 1001 is a nice reminder that the good ol' days weren't that good. We have come a long way...
