If they allow law enforcement to obtain data without a warrant. It is time to hang up my smart phone. I will not pay to be taken advantage of.

My city law enforcement is corrupt and they are under investigation for crimes/racketeering/corruption and other misdemeanors. The chief of police was put on administrative leave.

It is so obvious to me who wants this information to control and fleet us sheeple! It is pitch fork times!

It is more than what they are saying in the article. I have strong suspicions that Police are paid off by Drug Cartel money. If you lived on my street, you would see the rampant drug use and robberies. Yet all these druggies are allowed to sell on the street without fear of arrest.

It is ridiculous! Some of our Judges let drug dealers off despite video evidence of their drug sales.

They can accumulate phone numbers all day long without a warrant.

That used to be called a "pen registration"....the other is up for dispute.

When the NSA testified before congress, they said they weren't spying on US citizens.

Later, after it was proven they were spying on US citizens, the NSA admitted they were spying but they were sorry and would not do it anymore.

Did they ever stop...who knows?

It has become almost a standard that privacy is a thing of the past.

The legal argument now is that while phone users "rent" the service.....the cell phone towers, equipment, etc....including such that has location info, etc.......is owned by the cell phone companies and not the users.....

So, a warrant is not necessary for user data.

It was settled law when NSA was illegally spying on American citizens.

It seems laws don't matter when our government (or government agencies) go rogue.

I don't believe so...at least not at the SCOTUS level.

I just heard about this line of "legal reasoning" from the talking
heads on TV....

Since it was revealed by the Snowden files....and, if you read them, the TS info was about how the NSA had paid(and still pays) all of these service providers a monthly(yearly, etc.) fee to be allowed to tap into their data streams.....and to install the necessary equipment to do so.

So, who is "laying claim" to the data collected?

And make no mistake about it....what's collected is not just "metadata" as the lame stream media would have you believe....that is a ruse.

The Snowden files also revealed that they laughed at all of us for "bugging" ourselves with our "smart phones".
