ARLINGTON, Va. - Brian Wynne, president and CEO of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), today issued the following statement on the U.S. Senate passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which reinstates registration and marking requirements for small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) that were vacated by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit in Taylor v. Huerta (No. 15-1495; decided on May 19, 2017):

"Since the court's decision last spring, AUVSI has urged Congress to restore federal registration for all UAS operators. By requiring UAS pilots to be accountable and responsible for their operations, the registration system helps deter careless and reckless behavior. We will continue to work with Congress and the FAA on further solutions to maintain the safety of the national airspace."

Just like anti-gun laws prevent gun related crimes...

its too late now... FPV and GPS were pandoras box to hobby RC aircraft... no laws will EVER prevent stupidity.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...

Isn't that supposed to be a defense budget approval?
Really annoying that they squeeze in other crap too.

Just round two. This one will get struck down just like the last one.

Different this time
This time the registration is established by law. That was the fatal flaw in the previous version. As soon as Capt Trump signs, it is the law of the land. You are going to have to pass another law to over ride this law. Good luck with that. This is not gun control, there are no drone rights in the constitution.

Sorry, it is here to stay.

Don’t count on it .... times are changing and more and more incidents involving the drones are going to push things over the top .....

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

Did anyone read the NDAA?

It has little if anything to do with what this asshole Brian Wynne says it does.

Brian Wynne can shove it up his posterior...along with any AMA executive members that endorse this crap.

And any others with their asinine claptrap that demonstrates their superb lack of knowledge of the US Constitution.....

These morons always respond with such crap as their is no "clause" for flying...as opposed to the 2nd amendment.

In addition to these fools lack of reading comprehension, they have never bothered to read of the 9th and 10th amendments....which basically says to these govt. asswipes.....to keep the hellout of states rights.

So, if people like harkin want to buy a AMA life membership...and then advocate all this nonsense...then I say...well I can't here...

Your "common nonsense" and fortune cookie logic is perfect for your socialist utopia.....so move away....to NK...

Living in the past. The world is not flat. Keep suing, any defect in the law will be patched.

Between registration and people like you, you scare the hell out of me. Registration is nothing but a license to fly. Get over it.

More stupid laws and regulations that come out of Washington.

Has nothing to do with the "earth being flat", but rather over reach by big govt. idiots.

One good place to hit the AUVSI Weenies is their Facebook page. These folks have a vested interest and despite their claims of being the biggest as in this statement, they are not:
AUVSI is the world's largest international non-profit organization devoted exclusively to advancing the unmanned systems and robotics community. Our 7,000 members span over 60 countries and represent government organizations, industry and academia.
These dudes are right there in Arlington and if the AMA was smart they would be moving to counteract this groups activities. There is nothing that can come from registration that is good for modeling, nothing.

Here is a link to their member list: http://www.auvsi.org/member-organizations-list/all

The list is business centric and modelers are not even in the mix despite the fact that we blazed the way. Hirobo is a member of this organization too.

Well, actually they do. Its just the NRA makes an enormous effort to try and cover it up through direct propaganda and back door tactics like that 90s law that forever blocks federal funding for the CDC to study the issue.

https://www.theatlantic.com/politic...-deaths/448044/

Interesting that you southerners are 10x as likely to die from gun violence as I am.... hmmm.....

You guys need to just stop it with the second amendment comparisons. The words "drone" "helicopter" and "radio control" do not appear anywhere in the US constitution.

I assume you think you should be able to drive your car unlicensed on the interstate as well? And the captain of the last airliner you flew on shouldn't be certified?

The pursuit of happiness is defined as a fundamental right mentioned in the Declaration of Independence to freely pursue joy and live life in a way that makes you happy, as long as you don't do anything illegal or violate the rights of others.

I "reckon" flying helis makes me happy.

...and for a brief moment this Sunday morning while sipping my espresso I questioned "what the...does NRA and CDC have anything to do with each other?".

...but a quick glance out the window made me realize what an awesome day to head out to pursue my happiness. Logging off.

~~Enjoying the hobby one flight at a time~~

It has nothing to do with deterring drone pilots from being irresponsible but rather than suckering good people to pay another format of revenue for them to blow. When the 1st legal extortion took place i was unaware of it & did my usual flying you know like all of you "in a responsible area"
It's too bad that in this country the good "law abiding " people aways pay for what the bad get away with & it's because the majority of the "shot callers" have their hands in your pockets if you let them. As for me I'm flying just as I've aways been an empty park/field & I'm there enjoying myself in a responsible manner in regards to the safety of others now, if only the wind would die down so I can test out my newly acquired Goblin with the ikon. The atlantic" is constantly FOS....and printing made up drivel.

To rely on their "statistics" is a freaking joke...

Why don't you northerners explain to people in Chicago how their murder rates are so low....

LMAO

Furthermore, explain how these northerners allowed Adam Lanza's mother to have even ONE unlocked weapon anywhere near her lunatic son she was planning to have committed to a mental institution.

And telling him she was going to do so.

Newtown's blood is on her hands.

Chicago isn’t even that high, more middle
of the road. If you compare five year averages places like Memphis, St. Louis, New Orleans and Atlanta have higher murder rates. I suspect gun rights folks latch onto Chicago because it is a democratic stronghold? Not sure.

The south has a very high murder rate when compared to the rest of the US. What is nuts is the entire state of Louisiana, for example, has a murder rate approaching the city of a Chicago.

Average 5 years of Chicago.....not 1 of Chicago and 5 of the others....LOL

Besides, Chicago has the strictest "gun" laws anywhere.

That's my point....

Im not registering a damn thing ever again... I did it "free" the first time with a pre-paid gift card tied to an old address...

you know how many times I needed that registration? NEVER. You know how many cops knew about the regulation? NONE. You know how many people within 10 mile radius of my flying site likely gave a crap? NOT ONE.

why? cause I dont fly over people, I dont fly over 400' AGL, and I dont fly for the purpose of video, nor profit. I fly for the fun of it...

no way to enforce it = no reason to comply.

showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
