Once again I hope Mark will forgive me for posting this in the main forum. There just isn't any activity anywhere else. Is anyone successfully using the Evolution .52 heli engine?

Never had one. I thought abought getting one several times but never did. They didn't seam to be very popular but I don't remember much discussion on them. If I ran into one at a good price I would try it just to see how they are.

OK.. this is not heli related. I have had two evolution engines. 0.61 and 1.00 airplane engines. Both have been great for me. I ran into a lot of OS crowd resistance here by using them. Later after having both, I can say that both ran well for me.

I have not seen the heli version or heard anything about it.

Do a search for "evolution 52" from the Engine forum using RR's search tool (very easy to use, by the way). There are LOTS of threads and comments on this engine.

I'll let you read those and decide for yourself.

Edit: I remember one RR Member posting that a flying buddy had one. It sounded terrible, was low on power, but they couldn't kill it...

That's about the only positive post I've ever read on it.

Thanks. I do know how and did use the search tool and I did. The newest thread I found on here was January 2017.

I was hoping to have some dialog with someone currently attempting to use the engine. I suspect it's an underpowered overhyped piece of junk. But, I'd like to hear that from people who have used it. I haven't run across anyone currently flying one.

Ok, good deal. Mark has done an awesome job with that tool. It's very simple now.

I see. Hope you get some feedback.

That's kind of the consensus from the past threads that I've read. Unfortunately. However, I have not run one, so I won't talk garbage about it.

Absolute garbage engine. Had one in a heli years ago that was given to me because the original owner couldn't get it running right. Turns out I couldn't either. Even sent it to Horizon, got it back with a few things replaced, the piece of garbage still never ran well.

Now we are getting a picture. Maybe I was lucky I never tried one.

Both of my Evolution engines ran well. Every OS engine owner bagged on it so bad that I did not like bringing it to the field.

Both still run well to this day.

I have always been an OS guy but a few years ago I picked up a new Horizon Alpha trainer (airplane) that came with the evolution 46 aircraft engine complete with funky shaped head. It was honestly one of the best running and easy to tune engines i have ever owned. I am a very gentle sport flyer so maybe that is why i had good luck with it. Also, I apologize for not speaking to the heli version as you asked but i thought maybe my experience could help. I regret selling that little gem to this day.

Several years ago a former club member bought one and put it in a Raptor 50. You had to run in absolutely peaked out to get any power and it never made anywhere near the power of a standard OS 50H, and probably not much over half the power of an OS 50SX-H Hyper. A shame since the aircraft versions make decent sport engines.

Can't speak to the heli version, but as others have said, the .46 airplane engine ran fine. I had to bend the idle adjustment limiter out of the way, to get the idle mixture correct, but once the low speed was correctly adjusted, it flew the 'F-22 Raptor'(ish) airplane very well. [Whether or not that was a good airplane for a trainer is another question entirely!]
