I know this predates a couple of you, but what a great thing to get in the mail this time of the year. I spent many hours wanting and wishing in that book.

Now one catalog could not begin to cover my wants and wish list. How do kids today manage. There are too many great toys to choose from.

What catalog(website) is your favorite?

I remember!
I lusted over the concept 30, speed track thumb cars, legos, electric train set and transformers! I always looked forward to it. I thank the Lord for my youth, I pity the newer generation. They have no idea of the magical experience!

Montgomery Wards was a good one. They had go carts, BB guns, and pictures of ladies in bras. Santa got me the BB gun, but a couple years later i had sorted out other means of obtaining the other items of interest.

We actually still have a Gambles store in a small town near here. They're not what they used to be but it's still here.

It wasn't till some 15 years or so later I got my first lady in a bra for christmas

We had JC Penny, Farm and Fleet. They were all about the same from what I remember.
My wife and I are expecting our first next May and I hope to give them back some wonder. My nephews are spoiled rotten. From one thing to the next they go eating through dollars faster than you can imagine.

I remember that, I felt a kind of shame and erotic at the same time looking at those pictures. Well what the h@ll, I was only 9.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I remember, that's what they call the good old days. You looked at the catalog and wished for things you would have some day.
I remember going to Sears and looking at fishing things and guns. Not today. I bought my first micrometer at Sears when I was 14 years old. It still works and has passed many quality inspections in 55 years. LOL

This thread got me thinking....My dad has been gone for 30 years now, but on my 13th Birthday(1973), he gave me a 16ga Sears and Robuck Shotgun. That was the only gun he ever gave me. When I joined the Army in 1978 I passed it onto my little brother. He was 13 at the time and he still has the gun to this day. It hangs over his fire place. I can still remember how excited I was that day...I too remember the Sears and Monky Ward Catalogs.

Yes, I remember waiting on those wishbooks. And every year I asked for the same thing, the Cox 182 Skylane, and never got it. Eventually the wish books went away and Tower Hobbies came along to get me started in the Heli world. Some years ago I found one of those little skylanes and bought it.
All I can say, is I am glad I got it as an adult instead of a kid. Cause if I would have had that POS back then, I probably wouldn't have bothered with any RC..LOL

it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission

If RC helicopters had been in the wish book 40 years ago, mom and dad would have had to sedate me to keep me from asking where my copter was.

BTW: This will be first Christmas without Dad.

Sorry.
I dreaded my first Christmas without Pop. At some point during the evening His grand daughter took his seat at his old piano, and it became clear he was still with us.

I remember using the sears catalogue and JCPenny one as well to hold down balsa while the glue/epoxy dried on planes I built. The catalogues formed around the curve of the leading edge wing sheeting. I think I still have a few somewhere in the workshop.

Those were the good old days spending days wishing for stuff from that catalog.
Kids today have to settle for online wishing

I'm glad I didn't get what I wished for as a kid because I have learned the satisfaction of earning what I have.

spending time, paying attention

I wished for a Verti Bird back in the 70's and Santa delivered on my wish, I was a good boy. Loved that thing, it was also the first time I experimented with electricity, connecting it up to a transformer, because a free "D" Cell battery each month from Radio Shack's battery club was not enough, and it took 4 of them.

Its all earth!
