Ok - I almost ready to give up.

For 10 years I've been using the 2-piece Hatori pipes for the .91 and bigger engines.

And, for 10 years, I have never assembled the pipe onto the header without ripping the O-Rings

Usually, I don't find out that I've ripped them until I disassemble the pipe from the header a few months (or dozens of flights) later.

But, I can always tell that they have been ripped since I assembled them due to the exhaust gas blow-by traces.

So, how do you successfully press the pipe onto the header without ripping the O-Rings?

Is there a lube that I need to use?

Thanks

A light smear of silicone grease (or even wet them with some glow fuel). Doesn't perish the rubber and aids disassembly too.

I just smear a light coat of oil on the inside of the pipe flange, since that's the part that needs to slide over the rings. Usually I'll just run my finger along the underside of one of my nitro birds and that's all the oil I need for the job.

Go straight on with the pipe; don't try to work it on at an angle.
