Greetings All.

I have a Cool Kosmik 200 coming my way and will be joining the Kosmik Club soon (I am a Kontronik virgin) and I have a question about Gov Store. This ESC will be installed in a large (40lb) scale helicopter. Running 12S, but the capacity of the packs is such that I am probably going to be able to get 2ea 6min flights from one charge cycle. Because of this and after reading the manuals, I am pretty sure I need to setup Gov Store, so that I can have the same head speed on each flight, regardless of the pack voltage at the start of the flight.

As I understand it, with freshly charged packs I start the spool up, allow the head speed to stabilize, power down, unplug everything. I can then adjust the throttle curve up or down to obtain the desired headspeed I need and am good to go for every flight thereafter.

Are there any tricks or special considerations I should know about when setting up Gov Store for the first time? What throttle curve percentage do I use for that very first spool up? Can I do this initial spool up without blades?

Thanks in advance!

Steve

Congratulations on your Kosmik.....I'm sure you'll like it.

I've never used gov. store so I can't help with that.

But, did you get a ProgUnit?

It's a must for the Kos S/W update and to use the Kos "Konfigurator" program to adjust Kos parameters.

I would highly recommend that you update the Kos S/W to the latest version.

And if you're using the internal 30A SBEC, you will need to adjust the voltage output....and maybe other parameters that suits your needs.

On these issues, I can be of help.

I didn’t have to do that with my Kosmik 160 on my Diabolo 700. I did mode 1, clear everything, mode 4 for helicopters and mode 8 to change the bec voltage and that was it.

Gov store is used on Hobbywing and YGE esc's, Kontronik is super easy to program.

Thanks Dbl E. I do have a Prog Unit coming to help facilitate programming and updating. I do not plan on using the BEC, I will be using a power source separate from the main flight packs for "avionics" and other accessories.

I may be bugging you about updating the ESC though once I get it in my hands.

Gov store is easy. You'll configure it (turn it on) in the ESC with the ProgUnit. After that all you do is take a fully charged set of packs and arm the esc as usual. Spool the model up at zero degrees of pitch and listen for the governor to capture (easy to hear). It does not matter what headspeed(throttle percentage) this is done at. That's it.

Governor store is not mandatory but allows such useful practice as unplugging the model from its packs to do whatever and then plugging it back up and getting the same headspeed. It also allows the same headspeed per given throttle percentage with packs of a bit different health IF you set it the first time with whatever set of packs you have that are known to have the lowest peak voltage hot off of charge.

Make sense?

Thanks Dbl E. "

NP....anytime.

BTW, I always use the Kos governor and run flat throttle curves....even in takeoff mode....

Thanks Dr. Ben. Perfect sense. Thanks for the info about zero degrees of pitch. I did not realize that. And this seems to be just as easy as everything else I am learning about the Kosmik.
Governor store is not mandatory but allows such useful practice as unplugging the model from its packs to do whatever and then plugging it back up and getting the same headspeed.
This is exactly what I will be doing by getting 2 full flights per charge cycle, hence the reason for me wanting to use Gov Store.

One last confirmation - throttle curve should be no higher than 80% for effective governor control correct?

Exactly....no more than 80%....20% is for governor "headroom"....

Well,I apologize, didn’t mean to pass bad info, I may have to go back and redo my Diabolo and now my Protos Max 800, my fault.

There is one esoteric exception to the 80% rule.....and it doesn't involve when you're flying.

If you can download the TDR2 manual, Henseleit has a nifty way to adjust Heli mode(Mode 4)....as explained on page 99 and 100.

Basically, it involves using TH to switch between full low throttle and full high throttle....as the TH function takes precedence over any stick position.

But, when flying using a flat curve...it's 80% max as you mention.

Also, the speed merchants don't use the fuse at all....as they can "spike" ~ 400A.....

If you do use the fuse, notice that it's very fragile.....and there are some fuse holders available.

LittleFuse Corp. makes a nice one.

Rather than mount the fuse directly on the negative input of the Kos., you can extend the neg. cable so that you can then mount the fuse/fuse holder where it needs to be on your particular heli.

It will require getting and extra Kontronik cable, unless you want to make your own.
