Going to rebuild a tail servo. Can I plug until receiver without a gyro to check it or not? I usually center a servo before I spit the cases.

Yes, you always can.....check for proper servo centering after rebuilding it in this way...

It won't smoke plugged directly into an RX....

But if plugged into an FBL, the FBL could smoke it if the FBL is not properly set for that particular servo....

I found it won't even run plugged into receiver. Had to turn fbl to normal mode and test it that way

Go to Servodatabase.com
- find your Servo's centering pulse
- setup the FBL to the correct pulse
- I'm assuming you might be running the MKS 760 rudder Servo
- The RX outputs is 1520 and FBL output is 760
- That is why it wouldn't respond to the RX
- having the incorrect number won't harm your Servo or FBL, rather it won't respond correctly (evident from your situation)
- 760 vs 1520 just means more resolution (more movement per 60 degrees of rotation)

BTW
Whenever I rebuild my Servo:
- I don't center the before hand
- I just open it up and do my thing
- grease and slap it together
- the potentiometer and mechanical limits take care of everything

* just make sure you remove all the stripped gear material & debris!

Uh -- 760 vs 1520 is NOT resolution.

760 or 1520 refers to microseconds, and is the nominal input pulse width the servo recognizes as "neutral".

Generally, the 1520 usec servo recognizes a nominal pulse width of 1500 usec (1.5 milliseconds) as neutral. The overall stop to stop travel of that servo is driven by a pulse that goes from 1.0 msec (1000 usec) to 2.0 msec (2000 usec) in width.

A servo designed for a 760 usec neutral pulse won't work when plugged into a receiver or gyro that outputs a 1520 usec neutral pulse width. Nor will a servo designed for a 1520 usec neutral pulse work if driven by an output that generates a 760 usec neutral pulse

Take pictures for referencing the gears and clean it up replace gears going by pictures

I don't bother centering beforehand either

spending time, paying attention
