The orchestra played the anthem before the show at Arizona Opera this weekend. First time in memory they had done that. Nothing was said, but all stood and sang.

All this "activity" by the players "taking a knee" is . . . to put it nicely . . . stupid. The problem the players claim to be objecting to is allowed to continue by the same people that are paying to see them "perform". What lack of intelligence permits the actors to think what they are doing will change anything ?

All they are doing is taking the stage and getting attention. Possibly so they can increase their pay. They certainly will NOT affect any change in society by doing what they are doing.

that picture and the "song"?
....Tasteless.

You do realize regardless of whether or not you agree, they are not just taking a knee to piss you off...there is a real issue with policing in this country and I think you know that.

Making jokes and trivializing the reality of being the minority in the US is just bypassing the core issue which, plain and simple, is a dangerously biased enforcement of the law. Hundreds of minorities have died at the hands of bad police officers without accountability....it's not a joke.

Strangely the ones whom take most offense to the kneeling don't have to worry about being shot dead because of a misunderstanding or simple bigotry. By focusing on being offended you are simply attempting deflect and detract form the real problem.

And don't say they were all "thugs" because in the past month...we all know it hasn't been those "thugs" who have been shooting up churches and schools, and killing women and even children.

Be offended by those men. And why is it that Charles Manson's death is announced as though he was some famous celebrity. News stations are doing reflection stories on his life as though innocent people did not gruesomely die at his hands. What's worse is he wasn't even slightly remorseful. Yet he gets to live out his life and die at the ripe old age of 83. That is bs. He deserved to die alone and be buried in an obscure, unmarked grave in the corner of the prison cemetery. Yet, people here celebrate the death every time an unarmed minority is killed by a cop. Society is all backwards.

Do you not see the hypocrisy? Or does it just not matter because you are on the beneficial side of the double standard?

Everyone's entitled to their opinion. Me I'm on the opposite end. I think the players are actually clueless.

Granted but not in the way that's being conflated. Ever here of pulling yourself up by the bootstraps? The hood (players) is overwhelmingly devoid of family values and respect for authority. That's the real issue!

Playing the victimhood card is self defeating for all involved.

Umm... because he is famous?
I haven't seen any TV in quite a while, but i have a hard time believing that anyone, even the twisted media, would present Manson in a favorable way.

Why bring it up here? There is a thread posted a few days ago, we are ALL glad he is dead, most wish he had been eliminated from day 1.

Don't let your desire to insult everyone cloud your judgement.

First of all how do you even know all of those players are even from "the hood?" Not every black athlete comes from some gang banger/thug back ground I'm sure. Not all of those people that were shot were thugs. One of them was a 120lbs woman who was getting her ass beat like a man while the cop was sitting on her back, punching her in the head.

Okay....take "the hood" and race out of the equation. What's left? A person. A US citizen. Would you enjoy being targeted simply because of your "assumed" background? I know you wouldn't let it stand if you or your family was singled out for what ever reason. But at the end of the day, why shouldn't they feel any less safe then you if they have an encounter with the police?

And if something does happen why is it always the citizen whom is deemed responsible when there is a negative outcome.

Shot dead by who?

Like in Chicago? Or LA?

You mean by gangs, I assume.

Ummm no, he was NOT famous. He may be infamous but he is no celebrity. He is a cold-blooded killer and he deserved to die in obscurity. He should have been executed decades ago.

Don't play coy with me...you know what I'm talking about. And don't worry I heard this argument about LA or Chicago a million times. It's the default defense that somehow means it basically ok for white police officers to kill black guys because black guys kill other black guys. But you see, that's just deflection.

Yes, crime is bad in those areas and people kill other people, but police are supposed to be held to a higher standard and are trained to defuse a situation. Killing someone is always a last resort...not the first option. Police officers of all people should know that. Being scared is not a valid reason to kill someone when you are a cop.

Or as it has become, ignore the situation (don't stop (and frisk)). You can't win for losing with the progressive thought process.

... I think they should stop patrolling in those areas altogether... let the locals figure it out on their own. Maybe they can get some of these multi-millionaire ball throwing brainiacs to throw money at the situation in hopes of solving the problems.

That is what they want after all, to be left alone...

I'm not saying the police shouldn't do their job and I'm not saying that their job is easy. But, your argument is basically "oops I shot that guy, he died..and then I lied about it." Like it's no big deal....killing a human being is not like dropping your ice cream cone on the ground...you can't just go get another life. An officer should not get paid leave and therapy for shooting a man. He should be fired at a minimum otherwise, why not just shoot all the black people during traffic stops? You get some paid time off and nothing will happen right? Right now that's the precedent that has been set.

Police know what they are signing up for when they decide to serve in uniform. It's not easy, but as it stands now, they get a free pass every time one of them "thugs" is shot dead for flinching.

Meanwhile, a remorseless killer gets to live his life out in prison and a black man that in possession of a legal firearm is shot to death during a routine traffic stop just for having it and telling the officer about it.

That is why they kneel. There are example all over society just like that.

I had an interesting conversation the other day at the pub. A guy there is going to Costa Rica for vacation, i mentioned that even in the big city they ussually don't have addresses for any of the houses. He proceded to try to convince me that we don't have addresses here. He offered as proof an example of a mine out in the desert that suposedly does not have an address....

Not sure why i thought of that now.
