Roban main and tail rotorhead slop Okay, I have had this Roban Super Scale 700 size Bell 429 for a few years now. And for the most part, it flys pretty good. I haven't had any major issues with it. However, one thing that has always bothered me is the slop/play in both the main and tail rotor heads. I have always wondered if any one has bothered to overhaul them and take the slop/play out of them? If so,I'd be interested to hear what some of you have done. |

I have the same scale and also had issues with mine. Slop was not one of them though. Mine flew great at first but after a crash it had a vibration which could not be resolved even by by mentor Copterdoctor.
Roban does listen to its customers and responds quickly to issues which has resulted in improvements to the mechanics making them great fliers.
I will ask Emile for his input and ask him to post a reply.
Hope you get the issue resolved.Roy Mayoral |

Which version of the head do you have? If its the one with a separate top and bottom half then i recomend the newer style head with the one piece hub. Its pretty slop free.

I'm not quite sure what one I have. But I've had my Bell 429 for three years now, so maybe it's the older version. |

I ended up using a Trex700 swash plate and tail rotor assembly on my Cobra.Steve |

The play I have is not in the swash, it seems to be in the blade grips. |

I also used a Trex700 head assembly. Before I ever flew the Cobra I replaced those parts. Just was not comfy with the Roban parts.Steve |

Tim, as Emile said check your rotorhead to see which version you have. See if the hub is made in two parts. It will have screws holding the top and bottom halves together. When I replaced my rotorhead after the crash I received a one piece hub.Roy Mayoral |

I wish I could tell you just getting the hub would work but it wont. the newer one piece hub uses different feathering spindles too. it would still be worth it to get both and replace the older hub and spindles to get the slop out. who knows, maybe and email to roban will give you surprising results, its happened before as they are aware of some of the issues with the older heads and is why the improved heads in production now. as for the tail rotor hubs, I haven't noticed any excessive play or slop in any of the ones ive dealt with but then again I haven't looked either lol. I will check em tho.
the newer head is on the left and the older one is on the right. the new head comes with metal blade grips while the older one had plastic blade grips.

Not to hack this thread but it's popular with a ton of good info, any of you Roban 800 size guys see the need to add 1 or 2 bearings on the short TT going between IGB and TRGB on a raised tail, it's not called for it in manual just curious, about 8 inches long? |

All, I did send an email to Roban and I was quite surprised on their fast response. They told me to send them my shipping info and they would send me an invoice for the upgrade kit. |

Yes, I'm hoping that this particular upgrade will make things more precise. And once again my 429 does fly pretty good. But I've always wanted to fine tune things as I go. |

Here’s an update on my progress with Roban. I originally sent them an email stating my concerns. To my amazement they replied with lightning speed! I received a email from the CEO Michael, and he stated that there is a upgraded version of the mechanics that he would send me the information and an invoice on Saturday. Well it’s nowTuesday, and haven’t heard a word out of them!!! Now what???? |
