I played around with multicopters a few years ago. Been primarily a RC helicopter guy for the last 30 years.

Looking into getting into it on a professional level.

I've looked at the DJI drones (phantom and the more advanced ones).
I also know what's out there ti build my own.

I did some rudimentary math, and can't see why anyone would build their own with all the costs involved with getting good equipment. The DJI stuff just seems to work well.

Am I missing something?
I don't think that I could build anything compatible to the Phantom 4 Pro with the controller and monitor for less than the $1800.00 cost.

I haven't looked at the inspire 2 with all the bells and whistles for about 9g's

What are people using, and why?

Eating, sleeping and boinking. Everything else is just Filler.

You answered your own question. I'm a builder as well but when it comes to IMAGE drones it's hard to beat the P4P @ $1400.

Same here, I built helicopters then home built drones but never could get the stability I wanted for photography. The DJI Phantom 3 advanced is all I needed, now all my other drones are just hanging around in my shop.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I built my own drone. I enjoyed the project and learned a lot. But if you just want to do some video work, buy one built. It's so much simpler, and you end up with a drone that has collision avoidance and better integration with GPS navigation.
