the standard built in software works fine for most everything I have ran across.

I used to use Symantec on everything, and now there is no need.

what the hell are you surfing ??

Lol, I do not have any viruses. Are you talking about the Windows Defender that is in it? The Mcafee that came with it has expired after a year? Seeing what my best option is? Mcafee wants $30 for the year.

Your *best* option for a secure system is Linux . . . Windows is just a loosely coupled collection of bugs foisted off as a product. Why anyone buys it is beyond me . . . (well, other than as a glorified video game). When I need Win (rarely), runs perfect in a Linux hosted VM, and I can snapshot the VM, letting me roll back instantly if/when needed.

But, in the pure Win* world, $30/year (at least) is the price you pay to attempt to secure an OS that the authors of apparently could not . . .

Friends don't let friends become electrotarded . . . .

The Mcafee that came with it
That's bloatware someone added to it, its not added on standalone windows 10.

You will be fine with just defender

Windows defender works fine. If you want to manage your anti-virus software and add some filters have a look at Sophos for home users.
It works great and I believe it's still free for home use. Here's the link: https://home.sophos.com/

I've been using the enterprise version in my network environment the past few years with great success. It's unfortunate some put down Windows. We use multiple operating systems in our environment including Linux and they all have their place.
