That's pretty cool!!!! Never thought of something like that.
You don't need to hit 1000 mph to be in a fight. Think A-10

OH Hell NO!

you are not to replace the awesome A10 with a F$%KING crop duster...
thats like replacing the Abrams tank with a toyota pickup and some dude with a recoil-less rife on top of it...

BTW that pilot sounds like some 9 year old about playing a video game...

I'm OK with their cutting costs, but I don't agree with contracting out R&D to the absolute lowest bidder:

i dunno... going from the awesomeness of the A10 to a single engine tail dragger prop plane... with half the carry capacity, no pilot armor and no 30mm cannon? thats taking a big leap backwards that no avionics upgrade can make up for...

it'll be a failure and relegated to training purposes only.

Looks like the guy that put together that first video can't tell the difference between a Texan 2 and an Air Tractor.

I don't think this is intended to replace the A10.
The Colonel stated this aircraft would go after soft targets. The A10 goes after hard targets such as armored vehicles.
They do a great job of supporting ground troops against soft targets but aren't always available in the combat area.
I think this would provide much needed support for troops needing it against enemy troops etc...
My two cents....

thats what he said yes.... but what many dont realize is that is what field artillery is for, that is what the Apache, blackhawk and little bird are for and that is what the C130 gunship is for as are a multitude of other ground vehicles that have much more capable weapon systems than this thing does (like the Bradley).

this crop duster is a big waste of time... and quite honestly embarrassing in terms of air superiority even against soft targets that can easily obliterate one using a stinger. and really... today's soft targets are not so soft.

but if we ever have a band of unruly grasshoppers... we'll know who to get...

It is all about air time. Jets travel to combat area have about 15 to 30 minutes to fly in a designated area before heading back to base/carrier.

Drones are limited on ordinances compared to the prop plane.

This is one of the reasons we used the B-52 to fly over the area for hours. The prop plane will do the same thing but at less costs. I think we will keep our A-10 thunderbolts.

The prop plane will be able to fly over the combat area for a few hours before heading back to base/carrier.

For soft targets that may be usefull, but still, what if the intell underestimates? if the comander says "choose your plane" i would go with the A10 every time. The A10 is old and ugly, but it can dish out a hell of a beating, and take a beating and still get me home. (i fly with a former A10 pilot who would say the same).

Keep the A-10 for sure! It is combat proven!

Since you guys are pilots, I'm sure you know you can drop a GPS 500lbs bomb onto a tank from 25k feet up in the air?

Tank is a sitting duck once it has been lased.

I know the A-10 came to our aid in the desert a lot but there were times when attack fighters were the only craft available.
In my experiences artillery Apaches and other support AC were not able to get to us. We did not have choice sometimes on which AC we wanted. I'll take that crop duster over having nothing.
The enemy is underestimated many times and in Iraq we had all kind of AC shot down. That's why I respect and appreciated the aircrews no matter what they were flying.

I dont recall losing all kinds of aircraft in Iraq from 03 to 2011... most of the losses were Helis... and most of the incidents were accidental in nature or loss due to mechanical failure. Granted, yes, if you have no air support that crop duster is better than nothing... but then again, there is no excuse for piss poor mission planning... and IMHO this thing has "poor planning" written all over it.

Well we did lose aircraft
Maybe you and I were in diffferent areas or different times.
Not here to get into a dispute over what I saw or anyone else saw or experienced.
I try to forget the things I saw or did.
End of my input.
