Mission Statement
The International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association (IRCHA) was established as an organization by the pilots, for the pilots. IRCHA works to promote the continued growth of radio controlled helicopters through education, representation, service, and special events. Radio controlled helicopters are a dynamic, evolving segment of the AMA and as such IRCHA works closely with the AMA to foster growth and acceptance. Through these endeavors, IRCHA hopes to provide its members with the opportunity to enjoy the hobby, make many new friends, and expand their intellectual interests.
History
IRCHA was created in 1989 by founder Don Chapman (pictured below) as the representative body for helicopter pilots. The Academy of Model Aeronautics recognizes one organization as the Special Interest Group for each particular segment of the hobby. The International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association was recognized as the SIG for helicopters during a time when model helicopters were still evolving. It was at this time an organization representing helicopter pilots needed to be created to ensure each of those pilots was represented to the AMA. Throughout the time since its inception, IRCHA has continued to represent helicopter pilots in all aspects of the hobby. From supporting competition pilots during the US Nationals, to regularly taking part in AMA committees and meetings, the IRCHA representatives continue the proud heritage established many years ago.

IRCHA - A Private Business?
Given their lack of accountability financially and otherwise I can only assume the IRCHA board is operating as a private business - ignoring bylaws for their own benefit.

Simple logic and reasoning tells us that IRCHA accumulates significant cash amounts every year (figure +700 pilots at this year's event generating at least $80 per pilot in membership and event fees). Couple that with mandatory vendor fees and and there is quite a war fund. Even with IRCHA 2017 expenses ( e.g., porta-potties) it is difficult to think all the money is going into the event.

The longer IRCHA remains silent on the matter and fails to provide a full accounting of its expenses this and in past years the more suspect the operation becomes.

Isn't that what everyone wants to see.... doesn't seem like big business to me.

there are even cad programs that remain free to small businesses that do less than 100,000 annually.

Given that I, in particular, directly challenged the IRCHA board regarding income and costs, I appreciate the Board's posting a general explanation of what it takes financially to put on the event.

While the explanation does not satisfy my desire to see a full accounting of IRCHA's income and expenses, it is a good start. I look forward to IRCHA's updating their 501-C status, completing an accurate filing, and making it available to the membership.

Thank you.

There are some glaring issues, thus locking it down into PDF's. My work and promotion of IRCHA over the last 15 years speaks for itself. I still enjoy the hobby but with IRCHA, we are at an impasse. Too bad.
