"Adding up yet?"

You bet.....that's one heck of an array of prizes....great vendor support for IRCHA.....and marketing advertisement for Align.

What else does that indicate?.....

So IRCHA calls out the "owner" of RR on the RR forum as being a "disapointment" and is now upset that the post had been deleted? What should you expect? Lets post on the IRCHA website about how big of a disappointment the Jamborees have become and see how long that survives?

Thinking about this comment again:
the money goes into the IRCHA presidential retirement fund. Upon serving no less than 15 years the outgoing president receives the motorhome of their choice
Might explain why there has been no elections.... 15 years. Seems like a motivation to stay president!

Of their choice? What does a decent motorhome cost these days?
My choice could easily be 1/2 a million for a high end bus style. Is there a limit on that or does the retiring president get to wipe the account clean on retiring?

Yet IRS reports do not show this kind of income or balance!
Shouldn't paying members also know how much is in that retirement account?

No transparency if you ask me...

As for charging vendors... All the Helifreak fun flys that we have done, the clubs have always made money that went back to the club for the benefit and improvement to the clubs site. The club made profit AFTER paying for all the costs (potties, lights, fences, etc).
Never once did we charge vendors to be there. All of these ranged from 50 pilots to 230 pilots and scales easily with no problem.
For "shows" this makes sense to charge as the rent of the convention hall (which is expensive), etc has to be paid for. Does the AMA charge for the use of the site like a convention hall? "Shows" are very different than a fun fly.

The bottom line is running a "fun fly" can easily be covered without charging vendors to be there per my experience. And with this declining market they probably should not be!

But we will probably never know all these details about IRCHA because they won't share the financials.

I didn't see anything that "added up" with regards to your other points you brought up......I don't get it...

The Offer
Wow, the offer seems pretty condescending to me. "In your time of need" Well heli enthusiast what media coverage does this event have that compares to Mark? Previously you had Airage and Maplegate present but both of them have dumped helis in print, rotary out of biz, rc heli out of biz. Mark in effect provided a service to heli guys and ircha received the benefit of promotion for at least a decade. All the while paying his own way providing us enthusiast a view of those distant corn fields where manufactures come to prove product durabilty and enhance demand.

Great job to Mark in illuminating the fun of the hobby, and that is in flight.

As for all the SIG back and forth you can take that up with the AMA who host the event on their property.

See this is what really pisses me off about a hobby that is suppose to be FUN......but NO... the regular rc guys that just want to enjoy their hobby have to put up the sleazy end of things. The old adage of money corrupts is still true.

Finless Bob, I think I can clarify the "motorhome" remark.

There were rumors that the previous President of IRCHA, before Dave Milner and crew, had purchased a motorhome with IRCHA funds. Only Rumor, mind you, but this was part of the instigation for the whole new leadership at IRCHA.

I am curious abut one thing. Does an Align 600 helicopter kit pay for 100's of T-shirts?? 2009 would have been approaching 800+ pilots, plus extras for sale... Cheap shirts or REALLY expensive helicopter!!

As has been mentioned before, If one wants to know EXACTLY how IRCHA is run, run for office, get elected, see it for yourself.

I have no skin in this anymore either, haven't been to IRCHA as a vendor in a number of years. But if you guys want the jamboree to continue, someone better step up and take charge or let the powers that be continue to in the direction that they see fit. This kind of public airing is NOT helpful in any way....

I can tell you that helifreak did come with its own corruption. 2015 Anderson helifreak was dismal the turnout was low as was the raffle. Enter witnessed corruption: during the raffle of what amounted to one power supply, main blades from zeal in various sizes, baseball caps, a flybarless unit, one pair of lipos and one SAB Goblin 700 canopy and boom.
At that time I was flying SAB and as luck would have it my canopy was toast, so I put literally All of my tickets into the CLEAR jar for the SAB prize! Now because the turnout was low and the raffle was just minutes away from starting My tickets were thee only ones in the jar as I stood by and watched along with two of my buddies, no one I mean NO ONE placed any raffle tickets into that jar. Both of my buddies said "that's yours" (referring to the canopy and boom) I thought pretty good for an investment of $20.00! But wait! One of the club members who had a mishap a few weeks prior walks up and the guy who was going to pull the tickets said to him as we stood nearby... "you need this canopy set don't ya, didn't you crash your 700" the guy replied "yep totaled the canopy and cracked the boom"
Someone here tell me why when my tickets where the only ones in that Jar was it that this guy who didn't place anything in there won the prize? Absolutely the last time I went to the Helifreak funfly again!

So Ive been reading though this thread and well I'm shocked at some of the replys and personal insults.

I'm no curator of the past Ircha events but I can tell you that in my experience the event has been great fun for me an my friends.

you see, I try to represent myself as a self proclaimed ambassador to the hobby. Not for self gain or promotion but to maintain a level professionalism to help share the hobby with others.

The internet of things can be well, kind of chaotic and I have to hand it to the Ircha staff for letting people vent there frustrations without getting into an argument on a forum.

With just a little bit of effort I found this:

http://www.ircha.org/presidents-report
http://www.ircha.org/node/60

now I'm not one of top 10 hotshots but for me the best part of Ircha this year was walking back from the flight line when a man, who pulled over in his car with what appeared to be his grand children yelled out " thanks for the show" followed by "that's cool" from the back seat. Priceless

and I will end with this quote.

"never argue with an idiot they will only bring you down to there level and beat you with experience."— Mark Twain

Build the Best, Fly the Best, Crash the Best

I would be pissed off too! I was not involved with or at the HF fun flys in 2015 and 2016. I ran ALL the raffles for all of the HF fun flys up until then and trust that sh*t would not have happened with me!
I am sorry to hear that happened to you
Personally, someone should give you your $20 back at a minimum!
And whoever was running the raffle, should make it right with you....

I agree that's BS and would like to speak to you about this. I left you my cell number in a PM. Please call me when you get a moment.

One thing that should be noted is that if IRCHA did invite RunRyder as a company to come and do pics/video of the event and all that was offered was airfare and hotel how does that even come close too financial compensation? How many of us would do 80-100 hrs of work for that amount? Never mind the expense of the gear or if something was to get damaged.
I can see how the generosity of Mark would be expected from the powers to be but do not see any reason for Mark to do so....

wow. 293 pilots is it? I can see where this is headed. I did not fly or camp at this years IRCHA due to how we were treated at last years IRCHA by the current P(resident) and I will not be flying or camping next year. It used to be fun. but it is now just a power trip for the current staff. Just my .02 on this one and what I have seen first hand.
