Its just a 10mm mainshaft. Find one in the right length from another heli.

yeah but it has a hole somewhere in between the top and bottom for the pin that holds the main gear/auto unit in place. I suppose the old shaft can be used to locate the hole in the new one and drilleddrive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft

Just a thought. I had to use Hirobo mainshafts in my Kalt gasser. The holes were a little off, but I just made longer pushrods.(or shorter, I can't remember)

If you get a material hard enought to work as a mainshaft, it will be too hard to drill.

I have used 10 and 12mm steel shafts i get from mcmaster carr. I get the stuff thats machinable so it can be easily cut n drilled. I dont worry too much about non hardened shaft because its not gonna bend unless its in a crash.drive a rotary, fly a rotorcraft

look for Drill rod O1 alloy rod in McMaster-Carr... 10mm or 12mmm (for the size you need)... its more than tough enough for mainshafts but still easy to drill with quality HSS or Cobalt bits.
but you have to be careful... the shafts tight tolerance sometimes means you have to sand the diameter down a half thou so that the swash can side easily...
showing a preference will only get you into trouble, 90% of everything is crap...
