Varies quite a bit. For a while i ran the sim an hour or more most days for a few months , then i stopped for a year or more. I recently started again, curently doing an hour or two each night.

Every time I get on I end up jerking around on it instead of actual practice. I have a hard time concentrating on what I got on there for in the first place. It's not real time for me it's play time.

Speaking of sim time ....how do you go some place and download a plane that you actually want to fly? Some one tell me where to go and how to down load it.

If you use RF, knifeedge.com has some aftermarket planes and helis that others created that you can download.

Some are good...some are lousy....

For me, planes don't help at all since I learned to fly planes without a SIM and flew in pattern contests.

For me, a heli SIM has been invaluable.....

absoulty a great learning tool which will certainly lower the cost of learning, but noting replaces real stick time, I feel sims also don't give you any dept perception, seen many newbies do great on sim go out to field and bam they never saw the ground coming up

Maybe 2hrs total in my life, why my flying has been stagnant for a while now lol

Know it helps tremendously but bores me to death. Use a micro instead which works great if you use it as a tool. Too bad I just beat it up for a couple min going nuts then fly something else.

Although just doing that has vastly improved my ability to bail out of sticky situations. Also find out I'm having an off day by piling up the micro on the first flight instead of something nice.

Had planned on biting the bullet and doing some serious practicing to make some good gains this season but that hasn't happened...lol

Only got about 4 heli flights in the last month or so. Skills are going backwards if anything

230 isn't bad in the visibility dept. Small and low on power which allows you to fly it in close proximity without risk of serious injury. Plus helps encourage good collective management. Okay trainer/beater and eliminates the sim to RL transition, simple heli to heli transition instead.

Anything you can do on the micro will be much easier to do on a good quality kit heli.

Sim is still better but useless if you don't use it. Micro is better than nothing and has its advantages along with some disadvantages

"close proximity without risk of serious injury."

Isn't that an oxymoron?......

If you're tender skinned lol. Wouldn't recommend running it into your face but it won't even leave a mark elsewhere. Already tested it LMAO!!!

Actually meant close proximity in relation to size. Half the size you fly at half the distance so it equals out.

One in a million chance you'll need a band aid with the 230. 700 is a one in a million chance you won't end up in the ER, ICU or morgue.

For me, it's half the size means 1/4 of the distance....lol

Unfortunately I'm right there with ya. Need glasses but been in the denial phase for about 6yrs now

Starting to have a dramatic effect on my flying so it's about time to face facts.

Still do okay with orientation for the most part but when the heli is side in I have a hard time telling if it's going straight or on a slight angle unless it's traveling tail first lol
