After 26 years..
I sometimes get on there for 10-15 min. While I'm charging batts on flying day..just to get my head into it! can't seem to get motivated to do more than that these days.

I do a great decending funnel!

Depends on my mood. When I'm excited about a new move I SIM frequently but not for long periods at a time. When the weather isn't cooperating and I wanna fly

In the last 6 months haven't used the sim at all due to a software failure. When it was working and I was flying regularly used it about 10-15 min/day.

I know they had sims 22 years ago, that's when I started flying. Ug, CGA/EGA graphics running on a 8 MHz processor with 640K of memory.

Damn that ground is hard! When's the right time to get out of this money sucking hobby?

I learned to fly without a sim..
Around 1996 I got a Dos based heli sim.; as you can imagine it was very basic..a stick figure heli with cartoon like background.

I do a great decending funnel!

"Dos based heli sim"

Wow....

The SIMs sure have come a long way....have RF6.5, and I think it's pretty dang good....

I learned to fly planks without a SIM, but I think I would have given up on helis if I didn't use a SIM.

Do you make use of "fake wind" and "fake turbulence" on the SIM?

....never tried that....

Just use about 15mph and work on maintain alt. and pos. in a variety of heli orientations...

Then switch the fake wind direction and try it again....

I learned how to fly without a sim ...... lots of boom strikes on blue shuttle ..... if you had ANY back elevator at all when you set it down it would boom strike !!

I have the RF 3.5 and get on it when the mood strikes ..... both for helis and planks .... learned how to do rolling circles (plank) and inverted hover on the sim ..... great tool.

I'm at the point in my life (65 yoa) where I just want to go fly , have a good time and bring the stuff home without the need for repairs........ the days of pushing myself are over ( did that for a long time) and I'm OK with that ......

Oh , one of the guys (way back) had this contraption which was sort of a simulator. It was a disc with two servos and transmitter attached to it . Then there was a ball bearing (1/2 in dia ?) The object was to keep the ball bearing centered on the plate using the elevator and aileron movements...... sounds easy ???? NOT !!!!!!

Been there, done that and old enough to know better.....

What might add to more realism on the SIM.....would be some audio additions...

Such as when you lose it...and are about to fly over your head or behind the flight line....the sounds of people screaming at the top of their lungs and running away....

I use rf 3.5. In the colder months I'll spend around 30min most nights on the SIM . Summer months not much at all. Just work on mostly the basics and things I'm not to good at.

Would that happened to have been "Aerochopper"?

My first 'real' hover in the backyard w. my Shuttle ZX ended in a
boomstrike! Lots of booms went on to that heli over the next few
years.

Pretty much ditto, except for maybe the age part, but really not
THAT far behind......

I had a sim years ago but rarely used it. I was from the UK, can't remember the name. It had Robbe Futuras and Kyosho Nexus.

Seeing I can't reliably hover inverted or fly backwards circuits then perhaps I should get one. The old ones felt nothing close to realistic, not sure about the new generation. I'm also a Mac user so I'm not sure what's available.

I used the sim when I first started, to learn the basics, hovering and forward flight. After that I used it less and less. I haven't touched the sim in probably 10 years.
There's no replacement for real stick time.
